I love the picture. The ability will give you something to soulshift for when this guy dies.

wow, just get two 1 cmc spirits with soul shift 1 and you can activate this ability for an unlimited amount, you just have to pay 1 extra to cast the spirit
Flying, Soulshift 4, and able to make opponent discard, it's a very versatile creature. Promise of Bonrei and Twilight Drover would keep his ability rolling. Perhaps there could be a variant of the Ghost Dad deck utilizing HWH well.

@Vedalken_Arbiter: Kannushi isn't a spirit and the ashes only affect things in your GY, so you can't sac it to He Who Hungers. They probably did that on purpose so this combo wouldn't be so readily available.
Anyway, only being able to do it as a sorcery is a bit of a bummer, but instant targeted discard is rare, so I guess it's forgivable. And aside from that detail, this is a pretty useful card so long as you have a method of producing spirits en masse.
He Who Hungers roams the Takenuma wastes searching for souls to devour, a hovering smoking ribcage with a void for a stomach.
I love this card and it is one of the big bads in my black kami deck. Your opponent will run out of good cards and be top decking before you run out of spirits. Soul Shift is just extra gravy as you'll almost always have something to revive that He Who Hungers has eaten.

Unlike Duress or even Thoughtseize, this dude eats land cards. Worth existing for that reason alone.

Absolute bomb with Nether Traitors. One on the field and 1 in the 'yard = "{1}{B} Target opponent reveals his or her hand discards a card of your choice."

2 Promised Kannushi
1 Ashes of the Fallen set to spirits
1 He Who Hungers
Plus, a very good use for Spirit Cairn...that should be enough!
He Who Blows 2/5

Soulshift 4? Sure, why not.
