Historically, this is the card that started Magic's long association of dryads with landwalk. It makes sense: wood spirits flitting between the trees unseen, raising their arms branch-like if anyone glances their way, invisibly approaching the enemy. Too bad that in this day and age, even a 1/1 unblockable won't get you to your victory, most of the time. Thus, for Shanodin Dryads, we're left with the artwork and not much else outside of a forest/nature theme deck.
Alternatives, for those inclined: Somberwald Dryad, the 2/2 upgrade of this very card. Wormwood Dryad, for those who dabble in the darker arts and want to maximize their dryad-based damage. Yavimaya Dryad, the most fun dryad of all, in my humble opinion, which serves to either lead you to new leafy domains, or sneak into the enemy's.
