2/1 for 1 is never bad. His old school mana denial against blue mages seems a little dated; keeping 2 blue open for a counter spell isn’t as super important in today’s game as it was back in the Mirage days. I do like the way this guy can tie up Mana for a bit, has a 2/1 P/T for G, and good art. 2 and a half stars.

Sideboard? Main deck it man, it's a green Savannah Lions with a (usually) negligible drawback.

So. . . what if my opponent pays {U}, and then I kick Unstable Footing at his face? :)

Pondering about the meaning of life can sometimes become depressing, especially when you're a lion.

He's depressed because he has a drinking problem.

Giant Growth this kitty and give his claws some Shuko so you too can have a Mtenda 6/4.

I would play it to see what kind of player they are early game. The drawback isn't a drawback til late game when you need those last points of damage. Most veteran blue players don't even focus on the prevention until late game anyway and that is if they don't have an answer to begin with.

My dedicated cat deck much much prefers loam lion. +2 toughness is a big deal if you can handle the manabase. You can keep Whitemane lion in your hand to save him from combat tricks or get a surprise blocker and you can use Qasali Ambusher to kill flyers or attackers for free.

Back to this card, nice in mono-green, ish, but that's all. Unfortunately 2 power 1-drops are becoming much more commonplace.

I love the flavor of a lion that can be driven off once its thirst has been sated. This was a poor man's Savannah Lions back in the day, and I used it in my green deck alongside Jungle Wurm. Oh how times have changed.

Nowadays, this has lost some of its shine due to the sheer number of 2-powered creatures for one mana. But I am still quite fond of it for nostalgia's sake.

My interpretation of this card's flavor: big ole lion is charging at the blue player, they spritz it with a water bottle and it flees.

I used to run this with River Boa. And I thought I was a genius.

BUG ninja with this fella. He'd be so good. So simple to lure into not blocking.
