Way too expensive. The actual cost to play the ability isn't too bad. But with converted mana cost 5 it's too much.

I agree, its an expensive card, but that only means play it late game where the mana can be spread around, and then use the discard once a turn to mess with your opponent. Precognition can match with this card so you control what your opponent plays and find out when you actually want to use the kanzashi so you don't use up mana without it being a card you want to play.

this is expensive, but it can help you mill an opponents deck while taking control of his cards too.

This card isn't really playable unless you have a Birds of Paradise or something.
Unless I can actually play the card, I'd rather use a Millstone. (The only reason to play this instead of Millstone when you aren't playing the same colors would be that this exiles the cards.)

Yea people are forgetting Orochi Leafcaller was in the same block. I use one in my 5 colour dragons to ocassionally mess with people.

Much more interesting in EDH, where it's either getting rid of a card they will never see again due to the singleton-ness or giving you their land drop.

I like it in multiplayer. Once in pay, two mana is a very cheap activation cost for "card drawing". You can also then take cards from the player who seems to have the strongest cards in his deck. Of course it's best if you have cards like temporal spring. I put your stuff on your library and now play it myself. ^^ It's like stealing, but you benefit of "enter the battlefield" effects.

I don't know why people keep saying that this card is too expensive. Sure it costs 5 just to play. But you're also paying 5 in order to: Steal / exile, at most, HALF the opponent's deck (in 1v1), steal lands, play spells of a different color with said stolen lands, and force the opponent to either play more defensively at the worry of losing cards or get rid of the card as soon as they lose something they want. It single-handedly mana-starved a 3 color deck that lost a lot of low cost cards once I got about 2 of their lands. 4/5 in my opinion. We can't always get scared off just becuase a card is expensive, that's what makes us have to be creative.

it's a bad card with an expensive activation cost to activate. So many better things to cast for 5 mana that doesn't require an upkeep of 2 every turn mainphase to be useful

@Wusanderz

You do realize you can play the lands you exile, right? No Birds of Paradise necessary; the only thing you need is time, and, if you're actually playing Ornate Kanzashi, you probably intend to have quite a lot of that.

Also stops top-of-library tutors.

This card is great in EDH/Commander. I run it in a casual control magic deck focused on stealing other's cards. I can get my opponent's land and play it for more mana, while depriving them of it.

Best though is stealing important/obnoxious artifacts like all the Swords, or Sensei's Divining Top. I don't have my Top in my deck, because I find the card annoying, but I will take my opponent's Top and use it to stack my topdeck. Or if I'm really annoyed by it, simply exile it and don't play it. It is one of the few ways to actually eliminate that card. Did that more than once at games, and everyone but the Top's owner cheered. :)

The other great thing about Ornate Kanzashi, as someone else mentioned, is my opponents have to play very carefully. They don't want to waste a removal spell on it, but they don't want their prizes taken before they even play them.

In a large EDH game, this card is more than worth its mana cost. Especially since I have several ways to untap it in response to other's actions.

Whenever I go to Cube Draft Kamigawa in the future, I will make sure to make this card my FIRST PICK no matter what else is in the pack - or my current picks.

This helps hit lands, get rid of troublesome spells, get some extra utility, draw, creatures, removal, what-have-you-whatever-is-in-their-deck.

Love it.
LOVE IT.
Would marry it.

Must try in ALL EDH decks now..
