Sure, you'll just get 1/1 flying two-drops. But the card advantage this nets can come pretty handy.
In regards of discarding them like Squee, or exiling them, or to boost your Empyrial enhancements.
But a cip/etb trigger sounds more appealing than a "pig"-trigger, therefore i'd rather have a Squadron Hawk. I'd possibly run both of them in a Bird tribal deck, though.
That old Hawk buddy also has some synergy with Locket of Yesterdays, this might be somewhat useful in conjuction with the aforementioned Soulcatcher cards.
The inexcusable thing is that this would've been just fine in Caw-Blade. Just fine. Squadron Hawk's ridiculous power level increase was totally unnecessary.
