Does no one notice how supremely cool it looks? Sure, if you use its ability, your opponent suddenly has an unblockable 4/4 that you paid six mana for. But look at it! Even the name... "Witch Engine"...

Flavorfully, I don't get it at all. The Witch Engines are involved in Phyrexian machinations on a deep level...it feels like the card for them should be something more epic. And moreover, how does something making a bunch of mana for you make it defect to the other side? I just don't understand.

Kidding. Thats just riddiculous. But on a serious note, BloodDragons got the right idea. Also, if you avoid using swamps, Its only got 1 black in the cost. Shouldnt be hard to generate that without a swamp.

I just assume that you made sure your opponent has swamps (like tainted well). Attack once or twice, then tap it and drain life your opponent to death. The control effect is then pretty irrelevant.
Or find a way to untap it, like pemmins' aura. Then it can generate huge amounts of mana for a drain life or something.
Or play it with homewards path.

Activate his ability, then use Sacrifice... +9 black mana! (Counting the one you had to use for the Sacrifice). Plague Wind might be a good target for all that mana.

Other than that, it's kind of funny in EDH to gain allies. I just can't imagine a black hug deck, though...
