effectively, you can redirect any destruction effect to another artifact you control. not that bad for a 1/2 goblin for 1R.

I find his flavor text incredibly lulzy. Artifacts are now the domain of Esper predominantly, but if you're gonna be running red with some Esper colors, grab Mishra, Artificer Prodigy. He's in 2 of the 3 colors of Esper, and his remaining color is the same as Slobad's

Hey hey, a legendary goblin! Here we see Slobad performing some much-needed repairs on Bosh, Iron Golem (see here for a close-up face comparison).

In the story, he gave up his chance to ascend to Planeswalker status in order to bring Glissa Sunseeker back to life. I was really disappointed when I read the lore for the Scars block and WotC Creative only gave cursory mention of his demise, saying that he "fell" to other attacking goblins to cover Glissa's retreat back into the core.

As for the card itself, it's an interesting ability. This was the first set to feature indestructibility, and until fairly recently there weren't a lot of other ways to grant it to individual permanents. You can use him in an artifact-heavy deck to cut your Shatterstorm losses in half, for a fraction of the cost of Darksteel Forge - and this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Wow, he has the same P/T and mana cost as Goblin Tinkerer. That can't have been unintentional.

He dies in the storyline after he and Glissa defeat Memnarch. :(

Makes every one of your artifacts into an impromptu Welding Jar, just in case you wanted to pay more than 0 to get that Welding Jar effect. Unless you're running some weirdly fragile and convoluted artifact interaction deck, you should probably just mainboard the Jars.

Okay, that has got to be one of the best flavor texts ever. I have an enormous respect for this guy, and I HATE goblins.

Gets my vote for "Legend that would be the coolest to turn into a new Planeswalker."

@ZombieVegetarian
Technically, he was first exiled (after his mother saved him from execution) for being born during the Black Sun's Zenith. THEN he left the outcast goblins because he didn't feel welcome even among them (though that was because he was spooky smart for a goblin).
