What is it in this game with torture devices and hand size?

@count_dorku: From the get go there have been two archetypes of decks: Ones that empty their hand as soon as possible and others that keeps their hand as full as possible all the time. These cards are hosers and enablers for those tactics.

Dorku, he wasn't questioning the mechanics. He was wondering why all torture devices seem to depend on hand size, and vice versa.

Love the artwork even though I don't quite get the flavor. Back when, this card could have been playable even in constructed.

This was horrible to face in a control deck. They'd sit there with their hand all full of counterspells and Whispers of the muse and Capsize and you'd suffer.
The torture/hand size I think reflect willpower. I.E if you have the mental fortitude to endure the torture you don't take as much damage (The Rack) or you go stark raving mad and as such endure the torture better, as you are not mentally present enough to appreciate it (Black Vise) It makes sense; no torture rack is going to hurt as much as being flattened by a small dragon physically. A lot of the killing is mental and your card count represents your mental state.

@Dorku It has to do with "Mental Tolerance" I think; that or showing control over the situation is akin to having control over the opponent/device.

You can continuously ping the other player. Every bit helps!
