Not quite as powerful as you may first think. Sure, it lets you save some creatures from effects like Wrath of God. It lets you get second uses out of "when this creature enters play"/"leaves play" effects...it even lets you do things like save a buncha evoke creatures. It has its uses. But overall I'm not impressed with this card, mostly because its a 1-time use only.

I disagree. This card is effective when used to exile your opponent's creatures. Use cards like binding grasp, or Seasingers to steal control of the creature, then throw it on cold storage. I find it's particularly effective when used with Memnarch (if you can get him out). And if you REALLY wanna tick off your opponent. Throw a Porticullis in there for good measure. Consider also, if you turn your opponents Lands into creatures, or into artifacts they can be stolen in this manner and also put on Cold storage. The only way your opponent can get his creatures back is to take control of Cold Storage himself, then sacrifice it. (Thus a Porticullis slows that process down greatly.)
I have a denial deck built on this system and it's quite effective actually.
IMO Cold Storage is very useful. I'd like to see it return in future expansions.

I liked the old wording for Cold Storage. It... it didn't really tell you what it did.

decent card, i would mainly expect it to be used for the "comes into play"/"leaves play" effects, but if thats what ur going for... i definitely would recommend Synod Sanctum over this one.

@Angel_Starmaster - why would you exile creatures you've taken over permanently? Yes, they can't take it back, but they could take your stuff as well - like your Memnarch.

Shouldn't it have said "put a creature you control IN cold storage"? lol
I've owned this since the Tempest days but it sat in a box for a long time before I finally put it into a deck. First time I play it, I move three creatures including a Clone (which had been a copy of my brother's less threatening than usualHero of Bladehold.) This was in response to Day of Judgment. He moved the Hero onto Mimic Vat. Later, when he created a Hero token with the Vat, I sacked Cold Storage to bring out the three creatures, and the Clone became none other than Hero of Bladehold. Then I bounced both the token and the Vat with Quicksilver Geyser and his Hero remained stuck in exile. I ended up at 1 life and he was at 30-something, and I took him down. tl;dr version: I won a game of Magic and Cold Storage played a pivotal role in my victory. Yay.
I'm not sure if he'd have cast DoJ if he understood exactly what this thing can do. Maybe this card's obscurity is its greatest asset.

Huh, so it perma-steals things that were only temporarily stolen according to the Oracle wording...

Synod Sanctum and this card are basically the same thing cept you have to tap synod sanctum and you dont have to tap cold storage. you can also exile only creatures with cold storage where as with synod sanctum can exile any perm. if im not mistaken. i used to run a return ally deck with this card and worked pretty well.

Sedris, The Traitor King. Or just Unearth in general, really. Just for that, I'm giving this a 4.5/5

Clever.
I hope that wasn't too obscure...
