You have to try this with Radiate now!

I think i'd like this card if it was a cantrip or cost Blue only.
Like this, i'd rather disregard the card disadvantage i give to my opponent and play Boomerang instead since it's only rarely a good idea to cast - unless you Radiate it or come up with similar combos, of course.

Don't see how this card could be much use. You can temporarily get rid of their best creature, but what if their best card is sitting in their hand and the only reason they haven't played it yet is because they don't have what they need to play it?

You know what it does with radiate right? Means all your opponent's permanent's are returned to the top of his library, and he puts that many permanents from his hand into play. Better try twitch with radiate.

@garbagegatherer- This would be fine with Radiate. Let's say your opponent has out 10 permanents. You'd target all of them, and then he'd put up to 10 cards in to play. Is it likely he'll have 10 cards in hand? No. Is it likely he's holding all permanents and no instants or sorceries? No. It isn't an instant win play, no. But it's funny and it will usually give you board position. Twitch and Radiate is also a good combo, so I'm not saying you're wrong about that.

That said, this card by itself isn't that great of an idea. Bouncing one permanent that they've already been able to play for and giving them something in their hand they couldn't afford yet is a bad idea.

i was pondering a lot thinking a way to make it broken but... it misses a combo

Taken by itself, I don't understand the rationale behind this card. Maybe they were thinking that giving blue a way to deal with creatures required a powerful drawback to compensate for granting the color something that is otherwise out of it's slice of the color pie... But it's not really granting blue anything it didn't have already -- Time Ebb, Ether Well, ect. Perhaps R&D forgot that the card was going to the top of the library, rather than the bottom. If it were going to the bottom, then it could be considered blue creature removal, and there would be a valid reason for it's existence.

Combine with Telepathy to not fail at life.

Best use for this is to trick your opponent into throwing down something valuable for free, then hit it with either removal or Mind Control.

Would I be able to use Redirect on Metamophose to target a permanent I control?

Lets say I cast Metamorphose and in response to my own metamorphose I cast redirect to one of my creatures, so then I would be able to drop something big and mean for only a fraction of the mana....

Any thoughts?

Mind Control cards are good with this; as is waiting until late game when they most likely won't have a hand. Possible {B}/{U} deck mixing discard in could utilize this earlier. I think I'll get a playset and try it out.

You could also mix with things that hurt them somehow on casting (costing extra mana, bouncing permanents, losing life, etc..)

Basically you slow their tempo (if done right) stay card neutral, and deny the opponent much needed answers they may be seeking. Bouncing land with this while using other cards to eat or bounce lands could allow you to slow them to a crawl. Seems better than the 1.7* rating it has now. Again, use this LATE game, not just when you have the mana.

There should be a R/B enchantment called Self-Loathing that reads, "You count as your own opponent." That would combo with a bunch of cards, including this one, and you could build a wacky but wonderful deck around it. I'm actually kind of surprised something like that wasn't printed in New Phyrexia, considering all the other weird no-good-on-its-own combo fodder they printed in that block.

And no, HorseMittens, you can't Redirect this onto one of your own creatures, because Redirect can only change the target of a spell to a target it could have legally targeted to begin with, and normally, you aren't your own opponent. =(

Magic is about making a combination of cards work, not to judge a card only by its text.

Consider this combo: imprint Meta on Isochron Scepter, use discard spells to empty opponent's hand, then proceed to lock them down every turn with a meta by putting their land on top of the library. Use walls like Wall of Denial to block which ever creature they manage to put into play. Or, have spells ready to destroy the permanent accordingly with Oblivion Ring

Haha if only you could target yourself!
