Strong. The costs are high, but there are different possibilities to get this card to your hand or into game: put Dark Supplicant in your deck or use the cycle-ability to bring it to your graveyard and use for example Beacon of Unrest to put it on battlefield.

Cycle on the third, Zombify on the fourth. Heck, if you've got 2 swamps and 2 dark rituals in your starting hand as well, then its first turn and second. You definately will only be hard-casting him as a last resort

I just love that with Dark Supplicant and two other 1 drop clerics, he can come out turn 2.

Beacon of Unrest is a bit expensive; I prefer the Dark Supplicants as well.

Anyway, forget effectiveness for a moment, this card is just very fun to play !

Dark supplicants are good for him and providing good support to others clerics in a cleric black deck like vile deacon

Why do I not have any of these in my reanimator deck? Probably because I was unaware of it until now. Thanks Archenemy article.

You could go the old T1: Swamp, Dark Ritual, Entomb, Reanimate route. Not the best card to use it on, and you can say the same combo for any other creature in the game, sans a few, but still a good way to get him out turn 1.

qaq456: The damage is applied simultaneously, so by the time you damage them, the creature isn't in the graveyard yet.

This was the first rare i ever got, and i never succeeded in using him, since whoever he hit either stole him with dream leash, or just blocked with enormous baloth. now he lives in my reanimator deck, and now they're scared of him. turn 2 scion is nothing to sneeze at.

One of the first 'fatties' I had ever seen, and I had always wanted to make a deck that could cheat it into the battlefield. And so a mono-black cleric deck with Dark Supplicant, Grave Pact, and Dread Return was created.

@Blindthrall

It actually states in the rulings, "If this card destroys a creature in combat and at the same time (using its Trample ability) it damages a player, you will be able to target the destroyed creature (if it was a card and not a token) to be brought back."

Shouldn't most Avatars have another creature type? It feels like the Soldier or Warrior creature type. Avatars are typically physical manifestations of godlike power, but they could further be defined most of the time. This one could be a "Horror Avatar." Or a "Minion Avatar."

qaq456: you need 3 clerics for Dark Supplicant, a turn 2 Scion of Darkness is still doable, but not like that.

The only reason I didn't give him 5 stars is because he doesn't have first strike and haste.

I'd like to petition to have him erratad to a demon avatar

This guy goes so well in my Sedris EDH deck. I have to worry about milling most of my fatties so I can rez them, but this guy has a built-in discard route! And he draws me a card into the bargain! 5/5
