Limited trick- you can enchant you opponent's creatures to let this guy get through. A 5/5 is still a 5/5, guys.

Look at that art! This is no mere octopus - this is a Lovecraftian horror!

Kiora: "Go forth, my pet! Hunt and destroy Thassa!" *Godhunter Octopus attacks, and Thassa blocks* Kiora: "Well...at least the 'hunt' part went smoothly."
It does seem, however, that Thassa and Kiora agree on what "true power" is. True power is five. You learn something blue every day, I suppose.

Kiora challenging a God? This won't end well...

I'm guessing flat-out "enchantmenthome" was tossed out on principle.

I'm thinking at this point in MtG, "FreudianArt.dec" would be surprisingly easy to make...

It was a good idea, but in reality it's overcosted by about 2 or 3.
At 2UU or even UUU it would have been good (Although at UUU the devotion may have been too strong.)

This card is so disappointing. That's our common sea monster in JOU? You couldn't just gives us a french-vanilla monstrosity?

Flavor text reminds me of Gravecrawler. Although Gravecrawler was real power. This is...not.

Godawful Octopus.

It's a localized Sea Serpent reprint. I like seeing them around, I don't like playing them.

Terrible card but DAMN I love the flavour in this set. This a perfect exemplar of it! Mortal pride!

Why the hell does a 5/5 with a drawback and no other abilities cost 6?
Given the prevalence of enchantment creatures, it's not a huge drawback... in this set, at least. Still underwhelming.

Name and illustration indicates a Rare or Mythic Rare blue Exile ability creature, in the vein of Phyrexian Ingester, while the actual card text indicates amazing trash-bin potential.

Why doesn't this prevent damage dealt to it from Gods?

Hilariously, this is comparative to Sea Serpent, a spell that wasn't that great back then.
I suppose you could take a few of these in a draft (they're easy to get), but Benthic Giant has no drawback and has hexproof. The only benefit this has is the extra power and Whelming Wave protection.

This card gets 5/5 on the "Potential name for a metal band" scale.
