For some reason, the thrulls from this set remind me so much of Pink Floyd: The Wall.

Man, I just cannot handle the combination of art and flavor text on this card. It makes me shudder.

Great in B/W edh. 4.5 for that purpose easily and for token shenanigans.

That art...it disturbs me. But hey, this isn't a bad thing to feed tokens to.

Anything that doesn't have to tap to be a sac engine is 5/5 in my book.

The flavor and ability is just a bonus.

There is a lot of tradition of having terribly scary crap like this in Fantasy.

I think one of the first Expanded Universe Star Wars books I ever read (maybe it was called Crystal Star something?) had something that was like this, except scarier because they fed only CHILDREN to the monster and it was supposed to cure sick babies. Except it just ate them. I forget how Anakin Solo managed to not die but I remember it was one of the creepiest Star Wars books ever X.X

"We don't need no cash extortion...
We don't need no mind control...'
No dark sarcasm in Orzhova...
Obzedat, leave those thrulls alone...

Hey! Obzedat! Leave those thrulls alone!

All in all you're just another brick in the wall..."

Pretty good free sac engine. Probably going to run two or three in my B/W sac deck.
With Reassembling Skeleton, you basically get a Glorious Anthem that repeats for the same cost, and it can be used with any effects on things like Unruly Mob or Tragic Slip.

Unless you are running a token generator of some kind, this card is not going to be working very well with Orzhov. Here's the deal: You've been patiently working to stabilize the board. You finally get a creature or two on the board and maybe one of them has Extort. Then this thing comes along and demands you sacrifice a creature to get a measly +1/+1 until end of turn? Really? Good luck with that as the Boros Battalion beats you like a drum on the next turn or Naya Blitz rolls you before you can even do anything with this creature.

Sure, black has plenty of recursion and white has plenty of tokens, but this card just doesn't seem to work well with where Orzhov has been going lately. Not to mention that 3WhiteBlack is pretty expensive for a 3/3 body. I don't really see this working in Standard. By the time I get to five mana, I have many other better choices like Obzedat, Ghost Council, maybe Alms Beast, or maybe even Ubul Sar Gatekeepers which is a common for one less mana and usable if you have some gates. Maw could possibly work in a Borozhov-type deck.

There may be some Limited applications and it could be fun at the kitchen table, but that's really about it. It doesn't do much in multiplayer, either, as far as I can see.

Overall, you are probably better sticking with Knight of Obligation. It costs one less mana, has vigilance to attack and block in successive turns, has Extort, and is 4 toughness. The Knight does lack the goofy sacrificial +1/+1 ability, but I doubt that is a huge loss for most Orzhov-oriented decks.

Love this card, one of a few I'm really excited for in DGM. He'll fit right in with a sac deck I run built of Reassembling Skeleton and Unruly mob. Pretty grim art though.

@ Purple: when he sacrifices himself, your other creatures get +1/+1 until end of turn.

The ability of the guy is great. Attack with five 1/1 tokens, have three of them blocked, sacrifice them, turn the other two into 4/4 guys each, and deal 8 damage. More than if none would have been blocked.

However, the 3/3 body for five mana in two colors is just horrible. It should be 4/4, or be able to create tokens, regenerate, have death touch, lifelink, fear or whatever.

It would take at least the efficiency of a conveyor belt to make this card constructed-playable.

A solid 4.0/5. Such anthem effects can really make a difference in a variety Orzhov decks, usually filled with rather meek creatures in terms of P/T. I used one in my FNM deck last Friday, and it didn't disappoint me. It affects the game from the moment it hits the board, either allowing to deliver the finishing damage with your Spirit tokens, or helps protecting your creatures from some mass destruction effects (such as Golgari Charm, to which Orzhov decks can be quite vulnerable).

It's what you get when Catholism makes love with the Aztec religion then has a baby that is put into the gaurdianship of the Russian Mafia!

@The_Evictee

The Orzhov are a religion, bank, and crime syndicate mixed into one. They use their "religion" to cover up for their guild agendas.

Aside from that, this is a great sac engine that already sees play in W/B/G Aristocrats. With Lingering Souls, he can win you the game by turn 6.

The proper place for this card is in B/W tokens. swing with a bunch of tokens; sac all the ones they block and maw of the obzedat; game. works great with lingering souls and intangible virtue for a likely turn five win.

I didn't notice this; that artwork is awesome/brutal!
-Sac outlet
-Pump
-Use with Carrion, it works from both angles

Can sack himself for the effect too; so do it. Pump your board full of tokens with Sengir Autocrat, lingering souls, and timely reinforcements, drop him, eat 3 creatures and himself, then attack with a 4-5 5/5s.
