A general is nothing without its army, I see. Even with the pumping abilities the Champion is still not powerful enough for its cost.

I don't understand why he has firebreathing. The art doesn't suggest it at all.

Good card for limited, meh in other places. I'm still a little disappointed that he's the prerelease promo instead of Firemane Avenger, but that would have been really stupid.

All I have to say is this is a 6 tap... in white... Expect this at the follow up to Increasing Devotion.

Holy crap are a lot of these Gatecrash cards getting some unfair votes. 2.8/5? You spoiled brats are lucky that you even get 200 new cards to play with every few months. I used to think there were some smart magic players on gatherer, now I see that you are all just trolls. And so am I. But I troll. 3.5/5

If he was 5 mana, I'd be more tempted to play him, but even then I'd have a hard time building a case for him.
Even though he did quite well in limited and was usually a two-for-one that subsequently won the game, I much prefer flametongue kavu since it deals 4 damage more reliably and is only 4 mana.
Not a terrible card, and his assistance was much appreciated as the promo card for Boros, but if I'm going to try and build a deck with tons of little creatures, I'd prefer a copy of Massive Raid first.

Never ONCE managed to drop this during prerelease. If you can't get use out of it during Limited, what hope does it have for constructed play?
Just too dang expensive. Would rather have had him weaker and cheaper...even just down to 5 CMC. THEN he might be worth it. But as is? Le sigh. Wasted potential.

Anyone else reminded of the Dwarven Centurions from Skyrim? (The Promo art more so)

These ratings are getting far too harsh. What we have here is essentially not too different a Shivan Dragon with the flying swapped for a play based burn ability, and a slightly smaller body. It also picks up a defensive firebreathing ablity, although not quite as good as firebreathing it certainly has its uses in combat. I guess people have been spoiled with titans which imo should never have been printed. This is good, very good.

this card begs for Preeminent Captain to get him into play in the early game. to be honest i do not see why folks frown so much on this card. for a soldier deck, this guy is very solid.

Looks sweet but there's so many better 6 cmc cards in the set. I'd rather play Aurelia, obviously. Her casting cost isn't restrictive if you're playing straight Boros and she ends the game almost every time she hits the field. This guy... just kinda meh.

Could be good in a uw splash r blink deck for the finisher, convert that built up board into some damage.

Would've been fine as a Hybrid, actually. He's a bit meh as he is, but if you had him in a non-boros deck a lot more opportunities arise.
EDIT: Ok, this thing is pretty darn useful with his ETB actually. Being able to play a fatty and kill sometihng is still very handy.

Okay, so if "R: CARDNAME gets +1/+0 until end of turn" is called firebreathing, what is "W: CARDNAME gets +0/+1 until end of turn" called? Armorbreathing?

This has nothing to do with Boros other than the fact that it shares it's colours. Not a terrible card however, just annoyed at leaving this out of my Boros deck.

Despite how expensive he is to play, this card is pretty solid. It has a large amount of abilities combined into one card. It has an enter the battlefield effect that can smack someone in the face. It has firebreathing, which --@Purplerooster--he is spitting fire, and a defensive pump as well, useful if needed to survive a more powerful defender, or to become one himself. This card is pretty solid, and though it has not much use in standard--agro and esper control dominate so far--it has its uses in an EDH deck.

Hmm, this card is just not flexible or fast enough. Yes, I get that Shivan Dragon was similar, but A) powercreep, B) this is a 4/4, not a 5/5, and doesn't have flying, C) it's red/white as opposed to mono-red, and D) powercreep.
To stay within the curve and really excite Boros players, this needs more gas. Haste, and the ability to split the damage as you choose, would have worked better, allowing it to be a satisfying top to a Boros mana curve, with the ability to win games the turn it comes into play if the opponent has not developed a robust enough board presence.
As it is, it's a slow beater that MIGHT take out a threat when it enters play, and then requires far too much mana to make it worth its cost. Leave it behind.
