A bomb in limited! Due to the ruling two of these creatures can attack if they attack at the same time.

He still has that Triceratops beak from his old art but he looks much cooler now.

Hey, guys! I think this is supposed to go with battalion. Right, guys?

Spot one ember beast, attack. Spot a second, attack with only your fliers.

Make sure you have enough Mogg Flunkies to aid him in his attack.

Not hugely powerful, but definitely a nostalgic reprint. I loved playing this guy in limited the first time around, and I'm sure I'll do it again.

I didn't really want to go Gruul at release, but with pretty much everyone else in the pod going Dimir and Orzhov I kept getting passed a bunch of Bloodrush uncommons along with four Ember Beasts. This card may not be much to look at outside of limited, but last night these guys wrecked face with bloodrush combat tricks tearing apart anything that dared block, and Furious Resistance holding the line on defense. In four separate games I had three out at the same time along with a Wasteland Viper, which I was passed three of! A Boros deck gave me some trouble, but Ground Assault was enough to keep it from building up for a Battalion swing.

With all the slow, chipping Extort nonsense that was going around, pure aggressive beaters won the day, though I did only finish in second to a Boros deck I didn't play. I was pleasantly surprised to get so much mileage out of this guy. I guess the biggest danger is that you may find yourself having to swing with something you may not want to risk if you're not running a Battalion deck, but Spire Tracer (which I one-dropped almost every game) made that a non-issue most of the time. Even when I had to swing with something more valuable, it was almost even better: opponents would dedicate their own valuable creatures to kill it, leading to very profitable Bloodrush buffs.

It would be hilarious to see some mogg flunkies riding one of these into battle.
It would be even funnier to see the flunkies run over, pick up the ember beast, and carry it into battle. :)

this guy helped me win 2 booster packs at the prerelease. not a bad card. useful for battalion or tribal decks. the body for 3 cmc is worth the drawback if u have weenies to support him.

great if you are drafting boros in limited, not so great in standard
