Given threshold, it gives you 2 spirit flyers at CMC
vs 5soldiers at CMC - martial coup.
Wrath is, in terms of creature sweeping fine yet it leaves you with nothing, CMC.
Considering potential in my Aven deck; Serra Aviary and Soulcatchers' Aerie, to which I think this card is more suited.
Great oddesy art, good just to look at if nothing else.

I think a lot of ppl here are missing the fact that Martial Coup allows for creatures to be regenerated. I can't really compare the two, b/c they are both useful for separate occasions (ie. When you don't have creatures with regeneration, but your opponent does).

Another narrow use for Whiplash Trap (if your opponent plays this card)

Another thing to note is that this has the "cannot be regenerated" clause, where Martial Coup doesn't. Also, the tokens having flying may come into play on some occasions; I bet many of us have tried being attacked by creatures we couldn't block because they had flying. Specifically, I've been playing against people who are fond of equipping flying spirit tokens with cards like Sword of Body and Mind and swinging in the air. Just an example, but nevertheless exhibits the way flying can be a huge advantage.
I'd use this if it didn't require threshold. It would be perfect in my Tajic EDH deck because it would clear all the blockers allowing for a free swing, and would enable battalion the next turn (or that turn if I have a haste enabler).

I don't understand why almost every Threshold instant/sorcery uses this cumbersome "instead" template. It makes sense for the direct damage spells, sure, but it's especially awful here (and sadly in the Commander 2013 reprint), with the whole "can't be regenerated" line repeated.

Forget Martial Coup, I'd rather have March of Souls (though that may be because I play a spirit token deck based around it).

Maybe it's just because I haven't read the books, but since when was Kirtar powerful enough to do this? He's only a 2/2! Somehow, even the mightly Progenitus falls to this bird guy.
