Simple, efficient, instant. What is not to like if you can get two uses out of one card for your Æther Charge?

Way too expensive.

Too expensive? It's a five mana 4/4 with flash. With an identical card built in. You'd prefer a four mana version? Elephant Ambush is what you get for four. And the only way you're making big tokens for less then that is if they're temporary- ie, Giantbaiting.
Look, I know a 5-mana 4/4 creature isn't a great deal anymore without some brilliant ability (See Ravenous Baloth for reference), but putting flash and flashback aside evidently, this is not a creature. It can be twincasted for much less than it can be Cloned. And then it can be Cloned to boot. It can be recurred and mucked with more than a creature spell can, and still gives the enchanting/equipping/pumping benefits of a creature. It helps mono-green escape Remove Souls. Etc, etc. If the triple green mana is bothering you, triple coloured mana didn't stop Cryptic Command from being in five-color decks. Three coloured mana? Versus green's colour fixers and the quality of non-basic lands? It might as well be colourless.

Why Isn't this a "Instant - Beast" card in the way that Elf and Wizard instants have been???
If you happen to have 4GGGGGG handy you can surprise the LIVING HELL out of your opponent.

A 4/4 with Flash and Flashback for 5 isn't horrible, even if it technically is something a bit different to that... in particular, bounce is much more effective against this than an actual creature.
This isn't an Instant - Beast because cards aren't like that, and I don't know where you got the idea that Elves and Wizards like that. During Lorwyn block Elves, along with some other tribes, got Tribal Instant - Elf and such, but that was only in one block, and they were Tribal Instants, not just Instants.

The point is, this thing is value. Play it right before you declare blockers and its a kill spell. With VALUE. Love me some value. Mmmmm. Delicious.
Hello SyntheticDreamer, fancy seeing another dude from the future here on a pre-modern card frame card. :P
I 3-starred your comment because while it was 'true' in a sense, I am a history nut and I want as many cards that are even halfway well designed to be remembered on their merits instead of maligned for their failings. We might as well not even have a Gatherer if we're going to judge the past purely on Power Creep standards.
Oh, and 'obsolete' is actually too strong a word because this does make 2 creatures, and Advent of the Wurm makes only 1 creature and you need 2 colors. The Wurm is good but it's not THAT good. I never understood it, but people very happily played Gut Shot when I thought the math was bad in Standard, and they played other Flashback cards that I thought were overcosted to flashback. This isn't overcosted to flash at all, it'sthe same. That must make it much greater than either of us are giving it credit for.
