In the context of Izzet v. Golgari this one is actually pretty good. Mostly you'll draw 3+ cards from this one. Regularly the six cmc would be way overdoing it, but with both decks being rather slow and more about throwing large numbers of cards at your opponent restocking your hand almost completely while countering is very powerfull.

@Streamhopper well played.
Also I like the idea of using this to counter something huge like an eldrazi or something in EDH

Awesome in the duel decks. Counter Doomgape and draw 7 cards? That's worth 6 mana and then some.

Best in a Blue or Black Zombie deck. You play this and inevitably someone asks, "why is that in the deck?"

And you get to say BECAUSE BRAAAIIIIIIINNNSSS.

For a more subtle approach, play Maze of Ith against a Zombie deck.

"Why does my best attacking Zombie always wander off into a maze?!"

Because BRAINS.

Free Counterspell tacked onto what could potentially be an Opportunity, though your floor is pretty low. I guess this could really shine in Commander, as you're most likely to see truly large spells in that format, especially from people who are taking advantage of mana ramp alongside multicasting Prossh. That deck alone loves to cast him at 10, 12, or sometimes even 20 mana, and getting rid of something that dangerous coupled with drawing that many cards in EDH is, well, quite impressive.

It could be awesome, but I guess the "creature" clause is what really dumps this card in the gutter.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but I think if you target Emrakul, The Aeons Torn with this, you draw 15 cards?
