he could be fun in a cube, or EDH! there are so many artifacts that around in EDH that are worth snatching from opponents.

Like some other Arabian Nights cards, this should be legendary.

Memnarch, perhaps. Then again, most decks have artifacts now, so he's usable.

Not a bad card, but he's too expensive by modern standards to be much more than a niche answer.

Actually Aladdin WAS Chinese in the original story, so this is correct.

Aladdin is such an under-supported creature type, like Uncle Istvan.

Don't know what happened, but from the get go I thought that this should have been blue. I know that Richard Garfield was in a hurry while designing and developing Arabian Nights, but I've never herd or read why Alladdin ended in red.

@tavaritz: You may want to check out the just-been-previewed Magic 2012 card Master Thief. He's like a modern version of Aladdin, and he's blue.

So that's why Djinn of Wishes looks so mad. He was expecting the Disney version.
Odd thing is that, while the story of Ala-ed-din WAS set in Cathay, there wasn't exactly much else that suggested a Chinese or other not-Persian-or-Arabian setting in the original (for starters, look at his name!). Cathay was probably chosen just because it was a place the Persians knew of that was EXTREMELY distant.
