Love the art! Love the ability. Too expensive and a sorcery...

All comments about it being too slow or too expensive should be auto-nullified by this card's rarity.

@lorendorky Just because a card is common shouldn't mean that it has to be terrible. Just look at Doomed Traveler or Delver of Secrets or even Lightning Bolt. This card would have been perfectly reasonable at 1BB or 2BB and a sorcery, putting it at 6 mana is a travesty. But honestly, who cares about what the card does, the art is gorgeous.

Better looking cards deserve better abilities.
And who cares about what the card does? How about anyone who plays the game?

I agree, this cards art is pretty cool, and I usually don't care for card art.
Mechanically, Raise Dead = . Chainer's Edict= This = ??? I mean I realize it would have to cost a little more than , but still.
And I don't mean to offend lorendorky, but your comment was rather ignorant. A card does not have to be mythic rare to be good. Counterpoint: Archangel's Light.

Commons are not designed to be underpowered, they are designed to be the Bread and Butter of a limited format. They are basic but effective. Saying it's expensive because it's common makes no sense as there are plenty of cards in this set that are very powerful and aggressively priced at common, Mist Raven being a prime example. I would say that an appropriate cost for this would be either or , being for a Raise Dead, for a Cruel Edict, to have both effects on one card, and or to allow the sacrificing to target any player. 2/5.

It's like a very watered down Cruel Ultimatum- think about it: only using one color, paying a bit less mana, AND is a common- this is about right. Add RR for 5 damage, Add UU for draw 3, and you're left with wanting this card to either gain you life or cause them to discard. probly that would have made it too much to be common though. The mana cost is right.
Which is to say that Cruel Ultimatum is not, can not, should not be made into a common.
I would like them to take one more try at a card like this, cost 3BBB, uncommon and throw in discard 1 and life gain 1.

At that price, I expected my creature to come into play.

I'll restate my opinion from the forums: There is no excuse for printing this card at 6 mana. Cruel Revival allowed targeted, near-unconditional INSTANT-SPEED removal at 5 mana. It was printed in Onslaught (Back when removal was quite a bit worse than it is now), and it was still terrible. There is no excuse for Grave Exchange being so over-costed beyond "Bad cards need to exist, because we want new players to be unable to play their decks at FNMs due to all the terrible cards we slip into packs and precons."

Visually, this makes me happy. Obviously not the greatest card in most circumstances, but the art almost makes me want to use it. The artist has struck that wonderfully comic tone that harkens back to the old days.

It's an OK card. its VERY useful, but the mana cost is a tad too much, and, when did commons have a mana cost of 6???

Art looks at-home in the Alpha Edition core set--the left half anyway.

Originally designed as returning your creature from the graveyard to the battlefield. That proved to be more powerful than they wanted for this black common card in AVR, so they made your creature return to your hand. Apparently they didn't even bother to test the change or edit the mana cost and just printed it. Sickening.

Terrible design. It's an edict conditioned on a disentomb with an extra CMC +3 thrown in -- and at sorcery speed??!!! It's not removal if you don't have a creature in the yard. It costs too much for either the return creature to hand, or sac effect to be useful. The card basically defeats itself. Honestly, I think this is the worst card I've ever seen.
Love the art.

You guys don't seem to realize that this can put your Chimney Imp right back in your hand the turn after you played him!! And it can get rid of your opponent's Storm Crow, since that'll be the only thing they're playing!
