This creature could really mess up opponent's strategy, given that it detain any protective/combo permanent your opponent has.

My absolute favorite detainer. How can you argue with an aggressive flying body that helps maintain board control for the turn it comes in? Obviously it's going to be weak to burn, but they reprinted Dispel for a reason, didn't they? If/when I build an Azorius-themed deck, this guy's going to be my most-desired draw.

Well designed and stunning art that tells the story that the flavor text that can't fit would.

Tempo gainer, 3 power in the air, plays nice with Restoration Angel. This is getting played in Standard.

Pros like me will not only be detaining creatures with this, but artifacts as well.

Why 1 toughness?
1 toughness Why?
As great as it is - I cant help but think that all too often its going to be held back, by some lowly spirit or bird token. - Oh well can't win them all.
Still looks cool and is cool, if only for its detain ability - that's (nonland permamnent) people.
Just hope that 1 toughness doesn't prove to be too much hindrance.

Shuts down all the toys your opponent shouldn't be allowed to play with: Equipment, Trading Post, planeswalkers. Detain is definitely going to make control decks strong against aggro. All of the uncounterable creatures and spells are a red herring.

Amazing. He's also, beside the Archon, the only Azorius card that can detain a NONLAND permanent. Artifact, Planeswalker, ENCHANTMENT.
I have a fun Azorius deck in mind, splashing red. And this guy is going to be bouncing a lot to help keep down the non-creature threats I can't deal with.

I got one of these at the prerelease and while i was sceptical at first, he quickly turned into my MVP of the day. I really think he deserves atleast a rating of four, but i guess people dont like him because of that 1 toughness.

Ill give him a 5/5 though, just because he was brutal at the prerelase and because of the art. So beatifull and yet epic.

Good to know Azorius' game plan this time around is to stop up their OPPONENTS instead of themselves. Damn, forecast was a bad ability. Definitely an upgrade, even if it's sadly STILL the worst guild, not only in power but architectural design and soldier armor design.

Anyone else notice he's riding a damn sphinx? Doesn't get any cooler than that.

this guy is a superstar!

so many reasons to play this guy. hes a human so he pumps Champion of the Parish AND helps him push damage through.
shuts down artifacts/equipment or planeswalker for a turn.
and to top it off hes a 3 powered flier who can push through Delver level damage if left unchecked.

i pulled one in pre-release and a second in my box, i found one more for a buck at the local shop... looks like this one will be a tough one to get ahold of.

I was wary of the 1 toughness...then I remembered that Gut Shot is gone. Very nasty card.

Lyev Skyknight + Swift Justice = hoping opponent tries blocking. Dead hostile and 4 life for 1 mana.

Same design formula as Flickerwisp. Also pretty good.

love this card alot prevents vraska and jace from using their abilities the turn before you swing through can be bounced like a pro pumping your champion and detaining the enemy and is a reasonable choice for your silverblade to pair with due to its decent power and evasion

One of the better detain cards I think, because it can hit any nonland permanent, and because it's a fairly costed 3/1 flyer

Easily my favorite art from this set, and it isn't attached to such a bad card. 3 for a 3/1 with flying is nothing to write home about, but throw on the ability to detain a nonland permanent and it gets interesting. 4/5, easy. Get it in foil and be amazed.

@spartan_x Maybe cause a little bird could cause him to fall out of his saddle to his demise?

Remember when no one cared about this card? Yeah, me too. Fortunately those days are gone, and Lyev Skyknight is actually seeing play in Esper Midrange. 3 power in the air with upside for just 3 mana. Turns out that's a damn good card. The 1 toughness is the only thing keeping me from rating this 5/5; still, a 4.5/5 is more than deserved here.

Oh, and side note: He's a human. Very relevant in the aforementioned Esper Midrange.
