being an instant, this is an efficient way to destroy any creature wanted, also during combat.

Thank god they reprinted it. The art for this version is god-awful.

The art on this is alright, in my opinion. It shows a dragon being cooked alive by an explosion of magma from a volcano. Pretty BA, in my opinion.
Of course, the new art is pretty much unbeatable.

Is this art saying Darigaaz jumped into a volcano to fight the Phyrexians? What?

@Mata-nui3:
Actually, the self-styled "gods" that this card's flavour text mentions aren't the Phyrexians... they're the other dragon legends.

The five legendary dragons from Invasion were something akin to dragon gods - they had tyrannized Dominaria way back in the day, and they were so powerful that Dominaria's lesser races couldn't kill them... all they could do was imprison them. Darigaaz was looking for a way to combat the Phyrexians, and Tevesh Szat gave him some malicious advice, telling him that if he found and released the five superdragons, they would be more than powerful enough to fight off the invaders.

Once Darigaaz did release the other four (finding out, in the process, that he was the reincarnation of the "red one"), they essentially became invulnerable, and they started attacking the Phyrexians... but once the tide had turned in favour of the defenders, the dragons started slaughtering Dominarians as punishment for their long imprisonment. Rith, Treva, Dromar and Crosis intended to rebuild their lost dragon empire, and Darigaaz, knowing that nothing could stop them while all five were flying, sacrificed himself to make the others vulnerable again.

I ran this in a (mostly) mono-white deck, thanks to Rith's Grove and Dromar's Cavern.
Most effective use of this card? No. No no no. But no one ever saw it coming.

Ironically, the person casting this spell is acting in the role of one of those self-styled "gods" -- Darigaaz is pretty clearly described as the terminated, not the terminator.

Leshrac_Nightwalker's exposition is awesome; knowing that background makes the playing of this card even more fun. :)

DESTROY TARGET CREATURE. IT CAN'T BE REGENERATED.

Do you need any more than that? Pretty efficient creature-kill.

Anything without hexproof, shroud, indestructible, protection from red/black, or means of self bouncing is going to be blown up by this 2 mana common instant.
