Not bad. It isn't unplayable on its own. It's definitely plenty useful if you can plan your clashes, as is plausible in a blue deck, or in a dedicated clash deck.

Good card, the only question is whether to play this over such alternatives as Echoing Truth, Disperse and Into The Roil. Also, the rating really took a hit. I guess that's cause this isn't very good in EDH.
This is more something between Unsummon or Repel. You might also compare it to Metamorphose. Since in this case there are ways to manipulate the clash, this is actually a pretty decent card. In the worst case it's still an Unsummon for , since even if you win the clash you don't have to put the creature on top, which is important if you use the spell on your own creatures in response to removal.
I'll give this a 3.5 because it has the potential to put a big creature on top for little mana. Compared to regular bounce effects it's card disadvantage for your opponent.
And you can put it on a stick. Couldn't imagine a deck where this would work out, but it might be worth a try.

This card deserves more than two stars. It's very versatile and has so many uses.
The clash ability allows -- if nothing else -- to see your top card and decide if you need it or if something else would be better.
It's useful for ETB effects on your own creatures, saving a creature, reducing an opponent's card/board advantage and combos well with cards like Coiling Oracle.
I read the comments on this card, and I agree with what most have said thus far. I believe that lica_barelli has this card properly assesed, however. The key to the clash mechanic is not whether or not the creature is placed on top of their library. Yes, I realize this is a plus and what most of the comments have been aimed at, but this is not the point of this card.
Imagine that the card read instead:
Instant 1U return target creature to its owner's hand. Both players Scry 1, if the card you revealed is a higher CMC than your opponents revealed card, instead put the creature on top of the owner's library.
I hope that you now understand why this card is perhaps better than at a first glance. Yes, you are allowing your opponent to scry with you, but the card is still in your favor because you have the potential to win the clash and set them back a card. This is something that both "Tempo" and "Control" decks can benefit from immensely. Your opponent being forced into, albeit occasionally, put his creature on top of his deck makes his next turn essentially dead draw. Replaying the creature will not help with this kind of "tempo" and over all card loss.
I enjoyed the part where you said to put it on an Isochron Scepter. This card is near and dear to my heart, and certainly having a card on scepter that does 2 things consistantly and one thing occaisionally is good, very good. Think of it like a miracle card in your deck when associated with isochron scepter. In your opening hand, its ok. If you draw into the scepter however... it will consistantly bounce their creatures, consistanly scry your deck (and yes, I realize their deck as well) and every lucky once in a while, it will give them true card loss.
To everyone who read this long...drawn-out analysis of a card that most won't give a second glance at, I thank you. You probably have a similar appreciation of MTG. Also, you probably love Isochron in a similar fashion. This was my very first Gatherer comment, I have used this wonderful website to brew decks, and I will continue to brew and offer my own experiences with cards.

Of note: If you win the clash, you know what your opponent is going to clash next.

If you win you get a 4cmc spell, if you lose you get a 1cmc spell. Either way both you and your opponent scry 1 which could be in either persons favor. As said could be great on the stick. Great with sylvan echoes.

I run a playset of these in my G/W/U ETB deck.
