I think it's actually not that bad since you can with M10's removal of mana burn, at least easily ensure it to be a 4/4 defender for 1Red which might attack every once in a while.

Play these guys with Raze, Boom//Bust, Tremble, Crack the Earth (with timing), and a higher land count.

A nice pick for a land denial deck. Otherwise, rather limited.

Could be a cool creature with some mana-draining combos, a red/blue deck early beater?

Mana Short
Drain Power

I like the concept, and you can't ignore a 4/4 for 2CC.

Very Underrated. These guys force the enemy to choose whether they want to face a 4/4 attacker on turn three or keep a land untapped. Great defender and excellent for slowing down the enemy's strategy.

These brawlers are so experienced that they know not to attack if the opponent has an untapped land. It might be a trap.

make your opponent decide whether they want to be hit by this or some of those cards that get better when your opponent is tapped out. The best part is watching them squirm in a catch-22 of indecision.

and a 4/4 defender card for 1R? awsome! loses defender when opponent untaps all lands? sweeet!!!

with manaburn 2/5, without 4,5/5. long as youre not hopingon doing instant casting in opponent turn anyway^^

A little sad if game is allowed to continue long or you're not playing vs creatures they can block, but they stop a white critter deck dead in its track.
And if you're not willing to go all out gobbo red needs these guys in a creature deck, so few good lowcost fighters. (pretty much these; kargan dragonlord and bloodknight (+possibly tuktuk the explorer)

Excellent Fling fodder and works well with cards like Warstorm Surge .

Best with land destruction as they demand you leave mana open (similar to having out sphere of resistance)

They work best in multiplayer where you punish those who DARE tap out. They also don't get removed too often because they become more useless later in the game.

Fun with Flailing Soldier as well. Tap out to kill my soldier? I punch for 4. Don't tap out? Punch you for 5(ish)

People are underestimating this card. In a fast red deck, it's incredibly powerful.

If your opponent taps out, it kills them very very quickly when backed by other fast red damage cards.

If your opponent doesn't tap out, they're playing behind the curve and the rest of your deck will kill them just fine -- in that situation, this is effectively a two-mana stone rain, denying them a land for the rest of the game (or at least the parts of it a red deck should care about).

It's weak against blue control, but otherwise it's pretty strong. Another red or green deck that isn't tapping out in its first few turns is effectively dead anyway.

When these guys hit the field, your opponent has some tough decisions to make. Those who have commented before me have hit the nail on the head: does your opponent deal with a 4/4 attacker in the early game and "keep up" in land/mana tempo, or fall behind to avoid the attack? Either way, you derive advantage.

And, c'mon, 2 cmc for a red 4/4? That should always merit some attention from a red mage.

Run with Flailing Soldier!
