A very good card for its cost. Sure it isn't going to stay alive for very long, but a 2/2 on turn one that requires another player to shut it down with two or more of their own mana can be pretty effective.

Looks fun in multiplayer, too :)

Goes well with an Urzatron.

I wonder which one is supposed to be the soldier in this art.

Hit-er is the soldier. Otherwise, good card, but no Vampire Lacerator.

Often it takes opponents a while to figure out they can just get rid of this guy by just having two more untapped lands than me. Or maybe my small circle of opponents are thickheaded... I should find better opponents. And more.

5/5 for sheer flavor! SO MUCH FUN TO PLAY WITH!!! The rest in the cycle look like fun too, though I haven't played with them, and am resisting buying them

i use it in UR control. Its a cheep beater (and my deck dosnt do anything els turn 1) and in order for the enemy to kill it they have to waste there mana, which could be spent casting spells which i now no longer have to counter kill or bounce for another turn. And thats what control decks are all about, stalling.

Flailing Soldier is confused. Flailing Soldier hurt itself in confusion! Flailing Soldier fainted.

People who downrate this card are missing how insanely aggressive he is in the early game. Absolutely brutal on turn 1.

Keep in mind that if you go first you get to attack with a 4/4 on T2. The enemy will then have to spend their T2 killing him or laying down a blocker. Either decision is advantageous to you. You either gain card advantage, or gain tempo advantage.

@Arachnos The guy on the artwork getting beaten down is making the Wilhelm Scream then I suppose?

This guy is a tempo machine! Give him a try if you haven't already. Throw him onto the battlefield first turn and watch the gears turn in your opponent's head as he/she tries to do the quick math on how to best minimize/eliminate this weird threat while still playing their early game ramp. Their eyes will flick from their hand to Flailing Soldier and back and forth--it's like a tennis match. They can kill him or they can play their early game, but they can't do both!
And in multiplayer, he's hilarious. Play politics with a couple of opponents and convince some to save him from dying so they can "hire" him out to attack other players. A perfect Magic card: fun and effective.

Watch them make it big, then *PLOTTWIST* make it bigger yourself and flash in Stuffy Doll with Prophet of Kruphix to block it.
