Very neat card for early game, plus being 1CMC for 1/1 is nice enough on its own.

You'd be surprised how fun giving evasive creatures firebreathing is.

I'd rather play this over Firebreathing. Even if I somehow draw no creatures, I still get a 1/1!

This also sticks around and can potentially re-pair even if its original partner dies, unlike Firebreathing.

@Trygon_Predator exactly that were most likely Wizard's thoughts behind this guy.
He's just so much better since he provides a body in the early turns and even then still gets to turn the creature you want into a firebreather.

Just for the lols, I want to Soulbond him to Moonveil Dragon. Strategically, kind of extraneous. Flavorfully, it feels perfect.

I don't even care what it does, the art is really badass.

every time I look at this card I like it a little more. If you treat him as a pump spell he is a very well costed firebreathing.

Been runnin' this guy in my BR Vampires deck, and he's quite good there. Turns out all those first strikers love firebreathing. Not to mention you can always just toss him off to Falkenrath Aristocrat.

I think homeboy here might be slightly under-rated. Not particularly viable for super-fast-burn decks IMHO, but quite useful in mid-game red decks. This guy is a viable drop turn 1, that isn't completely worthless if you pull him later on in the game. It should be noted that the two-at-once Firebreathing effect this guy offers is better than the sum of its parts - you're much more likely to be able to pay to able to pump an unblocked attacker when you have the option of which guy to pump. With that of course comes the increased susceptibility to removal, but the Pairing mechanic doesn't punish players too harshly by leaving the possibility of re-pairing available.

On the whole, he's pretty solid. I just don't see this guy as barely scraping in above the 3 star rating he has now; I see him as arbitrarily close but unequal (less than) to 4. Plus, great art :D

I have a friend who for a while was deadset on this card being one of the best one drop red creatures in standard. Bless his heart but at least its better than firebreathing usually

Best with double strikers.

An underrated card. This is an aggro 1 drop that you're happy to play on either turn 1 or turn 7. Hes a great place to put mana after you've dumped your hand.

He makes your lategame 2 drop draws into threats. All of a sudden that obsolete 2/2 is a 6/2 , and if they kill it a 5/1 is coming over next turn. Then when they're almost dead, alpha strike with both him and his soulmate and pump whichever gets through.
