Throughly outclassed by the Obelisks from Shards of Alara...Although these do outclass the diamonds from Mirage...

Well, it's either strictly worse than Obelisk of Bant or strictly worse than Obelisk of Esper, but hey--power creep.

The Obelisks are better, clearly. But this is from far enough back that the real strictly better card is Darksteel Ingot.

It should've made a cameo in Alara.

Become English. Then you can carve a woman and call her a bird.

If your only running those two colors, this is equal to manalith, baring unique situations where you would need other colors because of something an opponent does.

Also you could run alongside manalith.

Some of that isn't so true, in the case of a blue/white EDH deck. The obelisks wouldn't be allowed, and the "make any color" ones would only be able to make {u} or {w} anyways. Sure the Chromatic and Darksteel are still better for other reasons, but not because they can make more colors at least.

Still, even in my UW bird deck, not sure I'd include this. Apart from the ingot being indestructible and the lantern turning all my lands into dual lands, there's also Azorius Keyrune and Azorius Cluestone now. Which not only provide the mana but a possible creature or card draw.

If you're really into mana artifacts though, I guess I could see an EDH deck using this though. I mean, even with the better ones named that would ~only ~ be four so far, so there'd be room.
