Makes having to rely on Cancel/Stoic Rebuttal a little less painful. Works great alongside Mana Leak, giving you a much greater chance of taking out that critical turn 2- (3- if your opponent's on the play) drop. And since at least right now it seems like so many of the turn 2-3 cards that demand counters are non-creature spells (Tempered Steel comes to mind), that works out quite nicely.
Plus, then you just have that many more Mana Leaks for their Primeval Titans. Hard to imagine running blue without at least a couple with the current environment, sideboarding out against U/R Vampires and... R/U Vampires?
