I would much rather his frail body as a 0/3 or 0/4...even a 0/2 would be better...but as a 1/1 for {3}{R}? Even with infect, no thanks.

It's a tad expensive, but what a sweet combination of abilities.

Strange to see red getting into infect in this last set, this guy is nice, if you have tons of mana lying around... red control infect?...

Or you can Phyresis your favorite pinger.
This is cool, too, though, as the combo's already there.

Why not just use Cinder Pyromancer with Phyresis???? Same cost to play them, but you can stack poison counters by casting multiple red spells.....

Try having 2 of these guys out, keep em alive and your opp is on a short clock. He's not elusive, he's not drool worthy, he's Toni Kukoc. And Toni has rings friends. Don't ever underestimate the power of a strong 6th man.

When and infect deck runs into a land-draw, I don't think there are any better ways to use your mana

This with Kulrath Knight and/or Necroskitter and/or Crumbling Ashes and/or all sorts of other -1/-1 manip from Shadowmoor, Eventide, and Morningtide is pretty brutal.

hmmm... if you target an undying creature w/ a +1/+1 counter on it, during state based actions the counters will be removed, now we have neverdying.

@KnexWiz: that's actually not true.
Let's say this pings and kills a Strangleroot Geist with a +1/+1 counter. Once the ability resolves and puts a -1/-1 counter on it, SBAs make their check. During this check, the game notices two things:
1. "This creature has a toughness 0 or less!" 2. "This permanent has both -1/-1 and +1/+1 counters on it!"
So it performs two actions:
1. The creature is put in the graveyard. 2. -1/-1 and +1/+1 counters are removed in matching pairs until only one type is left.
It performs all of these checks and actions at the same time and in the same SBAs 'instance,' so at the time when it went to the graveyard, it had both types of counters on it, so it's not returned to the battlefield.
In order to work the way you're describing, SBAs would have to check the game state, perform only one action (removing counters), them check again to send it to the graveyard - at which point it has more than 1 toughness so it wouldn't get sent. SBAs all happen simultaneously, as far as the game is concerned.

@Magnor_Criol: So ping it BEFORE the Strangleroot Geist takes lethal combat damage. It's not that hard to think of.

So Prodigal Pyromancer with infect costs a total of 1 extra and 2 for the tap effect? I would rather have a rare card that was pyromancer with infect for 3. At least keep it the same cmc and only cost for the tap effect. Infects power was from pump spells not sustained anyways.

But hey ignore all that, this should completely rule in limited.
