Agreed that this is underwhelming. A lot of metalcraft cards in Scars were passable, if not *good*, if you didn't have your Metalcraft up and running. Even Auriok Edgewright, who was at the worst a 2/2 for 2.
But a 3/1 for 4? Double strike is always a potentially devastating ability, but when it can be turned off you're left with a vanilla, overcosted 3/1. Unimpressive.

@faisjdas: Agreed, and maybe an extra point of power and/or toughness so it doesn't die to a simple Hornet Sting...

Metalcraft better be freaking good in the next set. Us non-phyrexian aligned players are getting popsicled if you know what I mean.

if this had First strike without Metalcraft, then maybe I'd take a look at it. As it stands, it's just too risky and not worth the cost.

I like it, even though Spike is calling me a retard. Needed to be a 3/2.

I completely agree with all of the comments so far! Even if this card had full double strike, without it being a metalcraft-activated ability, I would STILL feel that it was overcosted!
Neat artwork, great flavor-text, but a very poor card! It's as if WOTC goes out of their way to put blatanly poor cards in all of their sets. Why??? Just, why?
Now, if you gave it haste and double strike, then I'd say that it would justify its 3/1 status and 4 CMC.

Yes, it costs too much. I would be very satisfied with 1RR @ uncommon, however with silverskin armor, and decent equipment, it's devastating.

I don't think it's so bad. Could fit a nice red theme with Manic Vandal, Galvanic Blast, & Liquimeal Coating running support.

had been nice for 3 mana but 4 is just too much...

Meh, I think it's good enough as is. Its ability is activated by Metalcraft, so obviously you make sure that one of those artifacts is something that helps it survive, and there's no shortage of those.

Did fairly well at the pre-release for me, but not well enough..

They totally screwed Mirrodin from the beginning. Thats why I just sat back and watched this block happen.

What's with the flavor text? Are the Mirrans British now? "Tally-ho chaps and have at the rotters and afterwards we can all enjoy some high tea back at camp."

I can't help but think this is a reference to an X-Men villain named Spiral. http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/7/71902/3306127-uncanny+x-force+v2+011-020.jpg
