As usual, it's ludicrously expensive and keeps on sucking your lands away. Not exactly what I call a good card. Still, 2/5 for being a Leviathan, and having an okay attack for its cost.
Overcosted and with a massive drawback. Certainly a far worse choice for a blue beatdown creature than Stormtide Leviathan or Goliath Sphinx. If it were unblockable, it might be worth the cost and drawback.

Losing an island each time it attacks is not a "massive drawback" for a 9-drop. Not to mention, if your opponent has some 1/1 chump blocker or whatever and you want to keep your land, you could simply choose not to attack.
However, Thing from the Deep is a bad card because it is a 9/9 for 9 with a drawback and no positive abilities.
