Sphinx or Fiction, and it's not even a 6/6! Fact or fiction might not be the greatest effect on turn 7, and neither is a 5/6!

Ehhhh.... Needs to be a 6/6....

this card is awesome and flavorfull. don't need to be 6/6 and fact or fiction is always good, no matter the turn. 5/6 flying and normally 2 cards or the card you need is a good deal.

Fun card that may see some play if Magic slows down as much as people believe it will once the sets rotate for Innistrad, and maybe even a little before that. If nothing else, it's nice to have a Fact or Fiction that eats Baneslayer Angels for breakfast for the next few months.

Also, fabulous artwork.

Well, your opponent might make a bad choice if they're distracted trying to figure out how to deal with the 5/6 flyer while picking your stacks.

have grave fetching or a strong Black blue and some combos will just fall in to place, add some scry and I my have some decks to test this in

3U for Fact or Fiction and 2U for a 5/6 flier seems fair.

First, outstanding artwork on this card.

Second, here we have Fact or Fiction. To those who aren't familiar with the card or were not involved in the game when Fact or Fiction was a big tournament player, the card is broken.

Fact or Fiction on its own was 3Blue. Subtracting that from the mana cost leaves us with 2Blue for a 5/6 flier. That seems absurd, but we also must keep in mind that Fact or Fiction was an instant, and this guy is a creature.

No, it's not as powerful as Fact or Fiction. Yes, it is still a monster. It's probably not quite good enough for constructed right now, but there are very few cards I would like to be sitting across from less than this guy in M12 limited.

Sphinx of Uthuun is a good name for a rock band.

You can do all the math you want, it still doesn't change the fact that this guy is a 7 drop, and currently that's not good enough for Standard right now, especially because that means he has to contend with the Titans, which come out a turn ealier and can survive a fight with him. I like that older mechanics are getting some love, and perhaps he'll be playable when everything rotates.

That said, I love him and he's in my Mimeoplasm EDH deck, alongside Fact or Fiction.

Repeatable FoF. REPEATABLE. On an amazing body.

In a set with Lavamancer, Goblin Grenade, Demonic Tutor on wings, and a REPEATABLE WINDFALL ON LEGS.

Wtf Wizards.

Not quite as stupid-good as the Demon+Demonic Tutor that appears in this set (since this version of Fact or Fiction cannot be cast as an instant since it is attached to the creature.) Still, this thing is GOOD. It's a Mahamoti Djinn with Fact or Fiction attached for 1 colorless, basically. I see this getting plenty of play in Commander.

Also, much like the Tutor-Demon, this works well with effects that let him keep re-entering the battlefield, like Venser.

Good lord this artwork is epic. I like the effect, and a 5/6 flier is pretty beef but...I don't know, seems a little pricey to me. I think it would have been better at 4U and 2, or top 7 cards instead of top 5.

Potentially even better than Fact or Fiction in EDH. Three extra mana for a solid creature that goes great on a Mimic Vat? Sounds like a fantastic deal in slower formats.

On the other hand, the lower CMC and instant speed of FoF means you get a better chance of doing something fancy with the rest of the mana on that turn, maybe with one of the cards you get, and maybe on your opponent's turn. And for better or for worse, the sphinx is less prone to fancy schmancy redirect effects. Though if you're using one you might want to use the other, so you might not even have to choose between them.

Hmm, if I think about cheating this in play with something like Polymorph, then a lot better creatures come to mind... And hardcasting this is in mono blue is pretty absurd.

It feels as though at 7 cmc, you should cast something else that actually wins you the game instead of draws you a few cards. I would personally perfer Consecrated Sphinx over this since you can pull off a lot more tricks and potentially draw more cards.

I think this is quite good. Everyone seems to think that because it´s not 6/6 or because it has a CMC of 7 it's soooo bad. The fact is that if you play that in a green deck, with, among others, Solemn Simulacrum, that is a very decent card. In my opinion anyways. I will try it at a FNM event soon and let you know. I think it can hold its own agaisnt the Titans. Again, that is only my opinion.

Apparently Quicksilver Amulet was in the same set, so in Standard people can still EOTFoFUL for four mana, but uncounterable and attached to a 5/6 Flyer.

Well this is almost close to being strictly better than blue's old faithful flyer Mahamoti Djinn

For 1 extra colourless, you get a tacked on Fact or Fiction but still keeping 5/6 P/T and flying

Thanks Wizards, you truly make old cards look bad...

There's a problem with this rule:

------
9/22/2011 In multiplayer games, you choose an opponent to separate the cards when the ability resolves. This doesn't target that opponent. Because the cards are revealed, all players may see the cards and offer opinions.
------

In our Commander format some guys just use it to pick THEIR FRIEND which separates it into 5-0 (FIVE-ZERO) piles. So does it really work as intended?

I have read the comments but could not find anyone with the same problem though.

@regressor
If that was my friend, I would still be competitive
With that being said, the way the cards worded, it would be allowed just by card ruling alone. But, I would never let that slide in my own playgroup. And at a shop or tourney, im sure a judge wouldn't let that slide either. I wouldn't take that for one second, play fair or don't play at all.

I love this guy in my EDH deck. A fact or fiction with a 5/6 body for 2Blue sans-flying is great. Flying is a bonus in this case. It's a little awkward to cast for the full cost, and could just as well be a bit weaker for 5Blue ,good target for Birthing Pod though.
