It was a creature with a basic land type? Interesting.

It wasn't a creature with a basic land type; back then the creature type was *everything* after the type, even if it was more than one word (for a while, Goblin Wizard wasn't a Goblin, nor a Wizard, but just a Goblin Wizard). This is not the rule anymore, and good riddance.

As for the card itself, this is an unplayable relic of a time when WotC thought big creatures needed huge drawbacks to balance them out, as if the fact that the game would often be over before they could be brought to bear wasn't drawback enough. A 6/8 for 7 mana would have been fair if not on the weak side even without any drawbacks; with them, this card became essentially unplayable.

But I do believe someone made a joke deck that used fetch lands to put this into play. What is the infinite combo that the new oracle note is talking about?

Umm...Experiment Kraj, Wirewood Channeler, three other elves, and this guy? I dunno...anyway, it doesn't work anymore :P

The joke deck would work if there was an R&D's Secret Lair in play. And with the Lair in play, Jasconious would count as an Island for his Islandhome ability, as well.

I like the name. The name is nice. Other than that, it's very very dated.

Absolutely overcosted. For that cost, I expect something stronger, and with those drawbacks, I expect something cheaper. It wasn't even good for its day. Nobody has fond memories of this card. This card never won any games, and I'd honestly be surprised if it went into any decks- ever.

I don't mean to sound so harsh, but c'mon. It's not like stronger cards weren't already printed for cheaper by this time.

I was pretty young when I first got into Magic, and this was in the first Magic product I ever bought, a Starter Pack (or whatever it was called) of Fourth Edition. I immediately loved this card and thought it was really awesome. It was my favorite card for quite a while.

I was dumb when I was young. Cool art, though.

I suppose this was a decent card in its days, but not worth it with power creep today.

At best it's probably a tough defender.

Somehow I ave a Revised edition of this card. 7 CMC for a 6/8 that you must pay 3 to untap, doesn't untap during your untap phase, can't attack unless your opponent controls islands, and is buried when you control no islands.

That is just crappy all around.

Maybe you can make it SEMI USABLE using something like Magical Hack to change the land type required in the card text, but even then it seems more trouble than its worth.

Kind of like Dryad Arbor, since this says it's an island.

Simple: load the deck with fish cards including jasconius.

First turn: Play "Index" to rearrange the top five cards your library so you can play a small fish card (can't think of any of the top of my head) for 1 mana and play "Polymorph" third turn.

Second turn: play "fish card" with converted mana cost of 1.

Third turn: Play "Polymorph" cast your line with the small bait fish (sacrifice the small fish card)... bamm! Island fish jasconius third turn you got a big blocker out for 2 less mana than its converted mana cost.

Load the deck up with fish cards, and "coat of arms," "Urza's incubator," and "magical hack."

I think this card is awesome.

Oh my; I wish they allowed this to be an island. You could Farseek him into play and then Yavimaya Dryad a Tropical Island to your opponent.

Aw YEH. Even better? He could be another infinite mana High Tide combo :D

Give me back my island fish!

Oracle wording refers to rewording so that you can't use his untap ability inifinite times during upkeep...

Really? Who does that??!

Just use Horseshoe Crab for {T}ing combos... not this {4{U}{U}{U} monstrosity...
