Was scoria elemental good? No
Is this good? well...
actually at 4 mana, it can trade with any of your opponents early aggressive creatures. That is, your cheap artifacts, spellbombs, useless trinkets can trade with your opponents creatures. It is an artifact so that is always a plus if you are desperate for metal craft, unintuitive but still.

In a sacrifice theme deck, it makes a free outlet and you can attack for 4 with no fear of losing it to boot. And once your more impressive sacrifice outlets come online, than this guy can be sacrificed to them; poetically completing his life.

Come on now, we all know how useful indestructibility and regenerate is in this block, and that's a big fat 0. Don't kid yourselves.

@SolidSoldier: well that's true when toughness = 1 at least. Same problem as Darksteel Myr.

I'd rather take Lightning Elemental.

I use it in my slag fiend deck ... if I have 5 artifacts in play (including himself) I will sacrifice all of them after my opponent declares blockers (depending on what he decides) Its actually one of my more useful cards in that deck... of course its somewhat useless without slag fiend...

This should be rated at least 3/5 when you consider that THIS card is the only non-conditional artifact sacrificing card in standard outside of red.

People probably rate this card so low because they fail to see its potential in Drafts. It's a free sac outlet for cards like Ichor Wellspring and Mycosynth Wellspring, and works pretty well if you nab a big artifact creature with cards like Act of Aggression or Metallic Mastery (steal the guy, swing, and sac it.) I've personally nabbed like three of these guys drafting Scars/MBS/NPH, and ran every wellspring and card stealer I could get (Which was pretty much all of them, this card appears to suck horribly at first glance).

I'm by no means saying it's an amazing card by anyone's standards, but it's not horrible. Just at first glance it seems worse than it is. Take time to see a card's potential to work with other cards and not just how it runs "stand-alone". Yeah, a 4/1 for 4CMC with a pricey regen-ability doesn't seem too great to most people. But look at cards like Visera Seer. At first glance, it's horrible. But most decent Vamp decks run 4-of because it works so well with cards like Kalastria Highborn.

I know this a pretty long rant for a pretty meh card, but I think people jump to hating on a card before they think about how it can be used and give it an impulsive 0.5/5 stars.

Its really not that bad a creature. Im using it along side Indestructible artifacts(Darksteel relic and Darksteel Myr) and Worldslayer with a few cards to make them unblock-able.
When used that way, its a devastating creature.

I understand the potential of this card, but damn Urabrask, step your game up.
