Pretty much a guaranteed 8/8 Trample for 4 mana . . . with no drawback . . .
Metalcraft requirements are one of the easiest things to meet.

I'm not a big fan of elves, but I do hope there's some nice goblin stuff in the next following sets.

But I do like this card, metalcraft is so easy to pull off and maintain.

I hate elves, and i hate broken cards even more. So i'll rate him 0.5/5

You look at this card:
8/8 trample for 4CMC, oh come on!
8/8 trample ELF, OH COME ON!!!
But then again, it is green, and it's an elf, so maybe 8/8 trample for 4CMC is a bit expensive... (not).
Cannot wait to rip these apart with doom blades.

This definitely is power creep (which few people point out about the Eldrazi on here....), but really, so what? Green has been so grossly underpowered for so long so what if they (finally) get the ability to stomp face in a format other then casual. Not to say it's unused in tournament, but it seems to me it's mainly taken advantage of for mana accel/fixing.

An 8/8 trampler with no drawback if you run enough artifacts.
Well, welcome to Mirrodin, I suppose...

I hate how "rider" creatures don't have the creature type of the creature it rides. Just rantin' here.

This guy is pretty ludicrous. At least it's a rare.

Should have been 3/3 and gotten +3/+3 and trample instead ... but on the other hand, that would have made it uncommon ... seriously, what's with today's powercreep ...

Terra Stomper is much more simple, and unless you get a miracle draw, you won't be laying this elf down second turn. Terra Stomper is just as easy to lay down 3rd turn without the metalcraft BS, not to mention Terra Stomper cannot be countered.

I'd take TS anyday over this.

The art's background fast movement effect translates very well the sheer brutality of these godless elves. They hurt.

Maybe this is a noob question, but what kind of deck is going to be able to make good use of both the elf type and the metalcraft ability?

From what I can see, you'll get more use out of this card if you put it in a stompy metalcraft deck where having elves isn't a priority.

You can find an 8/8 trampler for 6 mana, example Terra Stomper. This only saves 2 mana, and you need three artifacts. Plus 2 of the 4 mana must be green. It will not see many tournament wins. Though T2 is weak enough that it might be useful there.

Copperhoof Vorrac was a great card, I just don't see how this is anything like a Vorrac though. Would be nice if their ability was even somewhat related. Oh, wait... Green and elves like artifacts now?

Hmm, these can make full use of Basilisk Collar - usually lifelink and deathtouch aren't needed together, but Trample + Deathtouch makes sure that you're not wasting the Brigade's power offing chump blockers, while 8 power + Lifelink...well, it is what it is.

A lot of you seem to think that this card is stupid because you wouldn't put artifacts in an elf deck. First- it's still a 4/4 for for 4 mana. Second- keep it in an elf deck with a few Liquimetal Coatings. You're welcome.
5/5 for this card, just look at it- how many elves do you know with a relatively high power and toughness in standard? Also it's easy to satisfy the metalcraft requuirement to make it an 8/8 with trample. Add in to the mix that it's well costed and that your other elves are going to wreak havoc with this and you have one of the best cards in scars imo.

Combine the metalcrafting ability with something like mirran mettle and you get a 12/12 for one turn. With Trample. Thats damn powerful :O

I recently tried to make a deck centered around this. it had lots of memnites, temple bells, overwhelming stampedes, etc. Once I realized it wasn't working, I realized what the problem was. It was this card. It looks great on paper, but once you try to actually use it, you realize it'll just eat a go for the throat the next turn.

It is disappointing that this and Carapace Forger are the only green metalcraft creatures. Both are great, but don't by themselves make you want to build a green metalcraft deck.

Carapace Forger, Mirran Mettle, and Thrun, The Last Troll compelled me to build a G/W metalcraft deck. It was competitive. But I wonder what it would've been if I had these guys...

Lifesmith is another green creature that benefits from having artifacts in the game, though it doesn't have Metalcraft.
