Horrible, a doom bolt that cannot kill artifact creatures either, a 1/1 flyer for 3CMC X 2, only works if you're running reanimate heavily.

Like all echo costs, it's meant to be a decision. You pay the echo when you want the 1/1 flyer to stay in play. Otherwise, just kill a creature for 2B. Unlike Shriekmaw, this destroy effect also have the Shredder stays in play till next upkeep, provide as a blocker for that turn also.

I have a pretty nasty combo with this and Skull Collector. Basically, until one is taken out it's a Terror every turn, and it only requires 3 mana per turn.

"Yes, I did just find Bone Shredder with Defense of the Heart, and with Sword of Life and Shadow equipped to Silhana Ledgewalker and 3 mana available, I don't see any reason to pay the echo cost. I hope you didn't care about your creatures too much."

I love this card so much. It was my favorite ten years ago and still is one of my pet cards.
I'd usually run this over Terror back in the day; more combo potential and cool artwork. Kills one of their dudes and can chump or deal some flying damage. An effective and very underrated card.

Great in Shirei EDH: since the Echo depends on whether it came into play, and not its having been cast, you can pop something every turn.

Yeah, it's not good in a vacuum. But I use it in a deck with Order of Whiteclay. The echo is actually helpful there, as it insures you can reanimate every turn.

How does something with that many sharp things sticking out of it only deal one meager damage?!

Works pretty well with Ninjas, actually. Bit like Dark Hatchling but spread out.
