I think the idea behind this card is that he's better in combat than a 3-toughness creature would normally be because of his on-attack trigger. 3/x creatures can't actually block and kill him, and even your 6/6 only trades. Plus, you never really want to gang block him, since he will usually take down at least two creatures between his trigger and combat damage.
Whoever said that he dies to lightning bolt is right to point that out, but bear in mind that in Onslaught block red's one-mana burn spell was Shock.
Still, not a very exciting way to spend six mana.

I hate this stupid rare. It's completely eclipsed in every way by more cards than i can count. Zombie tribal has noxious ghoul. Scourge sucked. Every set is bound to have some design hits; scourge's don't redeem its misses.

Sometime I wonder why people judge a card based solely on it's characteristics when it's alone. As Krytnyt says, Horobi makes this guy Kill up to five creatures on attack, Cowardice will bounce most of your opponent's field. Unless we're talking serious legacy, he has his upsides as a control card more than a finisher.
It's like saying "Stuffy Doll is bad because he only does 1 damage per turn to your opponent" while not taking into consideration the combinations of his effects with different cards i.e. Shivan Meteor.

Hilarious in multiplayer...
Also, Dawn of the Dead may be a decent way to get this guy out without shelling out all the mana/etc.. Maybe use him as a safer reanimator target than Pesti demon?
