This combined with carrion feeder can kill very annoying 1/1, or slow down a green deck, killing its llawonar elf or birds or paradise, then you attack for 2 on turn 2 :P

a really great card to start a game with. Can take out 2 1/1s, or a single 2/2. Good for stopping an opponent from picking up momentum early on.

Disregarding colors, i'd even consider playing him over Mogg Fanatic with M10 combat rulings.

I absolutely love this card, its ability to kill 2 1/1's or even a 2/2 makes this extremely useful early game. Perfect 1 mana card for a zombie deck, where you can just keep bringing it back and sacrificing it to carrion feeder or nantuko husk.

I remember playing against a guy who had this in a monoblack deck. I went first with a Crumbling Necropolis and he played a Swamp into a double Dark Ritual turn 1, and played this and Breeding Pit. I hit this guy with an Agony Warp next turn, and since I didn't have any creatures, he had to kill the Thrull he got from Breeding Pit. I later found out he was planning to play another black creature next turn and sac all three for a Delraich on turn 2. I love my Grixis deck.

(Card Rating: 4.0) Festering Goblin can be an early game attacker while having the potential to become a pesky 1/1 creature's nightmare. By itself, the Festering Goblin is able to take out a 2/2 creature or finish off a creature granting an extra -1/-1. Because the ability does not do damage, Festering Goblin can get rid of small regenerators like Drudge Skeletons or Will-o'-the-Wisp. One drawback to this card is that the triggered ability is not optional. In other words, if your opponent has no creatures, he can destroy Festering Goblin in order to kill two of yours! In my black/red casual goblin deck, I try not to run goblins with a toughness of 1 that will be susceptible to this gruesome tactic, such as: Knucklebone Witch, Goblin Chirurgeon, etc. Even with the new change in rules from M10, Festering Goblin still is not as effecient as the "all so famous" Mogg Fanatic. The main reason for this is that Festering Goblin requires another card or action to occur, such as death in combat, for the -1/-1 effect to take place. On top of that, Festering Goblin cannot be used to deal 1 damage directly to an opponent like the Fanatic can. If you are running red in your deck, use the slightly better version of this card: Goblin Arsonist. (Posted By: Misago)
