Even without it's effect, you still get a relatively good creature in blue and it's out of bolt range!

Flavorful, playable, nice art.

Step one: Put in EDH deck with Experiment Kraj
Step two: Give it a +1/+1 counter
Step three: ???
Step four: profit

The first ability obviously has a limit on its pump- if you the servant dies its dead.

But, the second one... is there any limit on how low you can make Power?

I don't think there is a limit to how low power can drop, PhyrexianLobbiest. Char-Rumbler has negative power.

Bad version of morphling is bad. Not horrible. Not good.

This is a great uncommon. I got a few in the mini promo decks - put him in a deck with lots of scry and counters and bounce, then slap a Whispersilk cloak on him, and he suddenly becomes quite a good, steady finisher.

Super-cool, no matter how good or bad it ends up being.

It seems to combo well with things that give it evasion and just as a good, tricky blocker.

With that versatility it could find good use in mono-blue decks.

It would be good if Morphling is back.

Watch out for Diminish! If you use Water Servant's first ability at all, your opponent can cast Diminish to kill it.

What I'm planning to do with mine, unless I come up against a Lightmine Field or Leonin Bladetrap:
Step 1: give it a Whispersilk Cloak (which thoughtfully came in the same booster pack)
Step 2: make it a 6/1 every turn.
Step 3: smash six points of health off my opponent per turn.

Should have been a common card since it creates a typical blue effect.

In addition, I don't like the fact that it requires blue mana as an activation cost. I mean how does R&D balance things?
A black shade gets +1/+1 per black mana, a red elemental gets +1/+0 per red mana and how is it balanced, if blue gets +1/-1 instead? Maybe R&D shoud think about it and either change the cost or the color pie a bit. Wouldn't hurt to have a +2/-1 as well.

This has to be one of my favorite cards to pull in draft. A solid 3/4 for 4 mana in blue is very nice in a Limited environment. Distortion Strike can turn this good card into 2 turns of 7 damage. All with an art that makes me want to call him, "WACKY WAVING WATERY ARM FLAILING TUBE MAN.", maybe open a warehouse and emporium...

Overall fun card.

People seem to think that attacking wth this guy automatically gets through. He doesn't have flying, and he isn't unblockable. If you pump him up to a 6/1, all your opponent has to do is block with a tiny 1/1 and you're dead. All in all though, he is very versatile. A good card.

Very elegant card in terms of form, function, and flavor. Love it. Even if I never play it in constructed, I still love the card.

I held off a Protean Hydra with this thing in a Draft - drop its power to under 0 to pump up the toughness, and there you go. The Hydra doesn't kill it, and it doesn't damage the Hydra (or make it larger.) Rather humorous when having 0 power is the key to victory.

@divine_exodus: You're missing the point of this card. Sure, the defending player could chump with a 1/1 and kill this if you pump it to 6/1 before you attack, but what you do is swing with it first and see what they do. If they don't block, it's a 6/1 to the face. If they do block, this guy can take down any blocker with a combined P/T of 6 or less and survive (barring deathtouch, of course.)

Nice remnant of morphling,

always like these two abilities together.

Always found the flowstone ability and its reverse to be like reds firebreathing, whites shieldbreathing, and blues power/toughness swapping.

@Cheza, the point was it referenced Morphling, and made it adaptable and temperamental like water; it isn't really getting more or less powerful, just shifting it's body around. Sure, the practical implications of this in magic are a little more abstract (as it can kill itself), but the point WASN'T blue's version of firebreathing/shades ect.

Also, really magic? I know it's pretty typical to make generic cards, but one of these core sets, you think you could throw us an Ice elemental? After a quick search, there are NONE(in blue), not even in ice-age/cold snap. Yet Frost Titan is okay? Why aren't the Titans elemental anyway?

Oh its Morphling !

This card is a giant pain when its played with its versatility. I think it deserves better than its current rating.
