Ohh boy, look at wizards next attempt to make a serpent not suck. Simple solution, make serpent not suck.

It's better than Sea Serpent for one more {U}.

Like a number of other cards in this set, it's asking the player to focus on mono-color decks to make it useful.

Is color self-hosing a theme in m11?

@Brixton

Not really, this guy counts your opponent's islands, too.

Nice card, but I think it needs a little something...

Arguably the best Sea Serpent ever printed. Although that isn't saying much. Still, this guy is a house in limited.

They keep getting closer to a playable serpent. But they're not quite there yet.

Not as bad as you think. When this is online it is a huge clock they need to answer, if its not its a really big wall.

I rode this things back when they didn't drop anything worthy of Mind Control in my sealed tourney.

Not great considering the drawback but every color needs a finisher and this guy can get it done.

Most sea serpents like mono-colored. So? Hello, they are SEA serpents.
This isn't that bad, especially since if you are running this and you aren't an idiot, you'll be running Spreading Seas, Convincing Mirage, and maybe Lingering Mirage, Sea's Claim, and Stormtide Leviathan.

And it makes sense that serpent creatures would be unblockable when you're opponent controls islands. They live in the sea. Dur dur dur. Don't whine about it being "color self-hosing," when hello, its in the color with land-control.

Don't know why so many ass underestimate this serpent before seeing it's effect in play. For Blue, 6 CMC for 5/5 is good (although you need 5 Islands to attack), and with Islandwalk, the bonus here is the beat down. M11 only has been released recently, so I hope you all don't forget the usefulness of Spreading Seas.

throwback to old, crappy, huge blue creatures
at least it doesnt require you to SACRIFICE islands, therefore, making it at least playable in monoblue draft, but ... monoblue draft. lol.

Good art & nice P/T considering its a blue creature. Still there are better ways to spend 6 mana outside of draft. Sphinx of Jwar Isle for example (yes, yes i know its a rare etc. but still you get my point!)

For everybody who thinks this card sucks...how many other 5/5 landwalkers are out there? And if you're playing monoblue, you just negated its drawback by having the mana to cast it. It's definitely playable. Hell, Serpent of the Endless Sea was playable. This is actually good.

For me, this was and is a great finisher. I tend to play budget and at a FNM level. and I found this guy to be a beast at my local Shop.

another manageable serpent, well wizards keep improving, i still want a serpent tribal look at all these wasted years of brutally bad serpents and improve it!

Going to have to agree with Zulp this is a major step forward for sea serpents. I like how you can make this one work solely off of your own islands and don't have to rely on your opponents playing islands. It's a great workaround to a major letdown.

Everything about this card is amazing. I'd play this over Jace any day. This has flavour to it. It feels like Magic should. I get to summon a giant beast to do my bidding, and I get rewarded for it. I've got enough decks that allow me to win on turn 3-4. Sometimes, I just need smashy.

The art makes this otherwise weak/unplayable card worth keeping in a collection. Best non-mechanical part of this game. Daarken hits another "please make this creature look situationally threatening" task out of the park.

This an upgrade over old Sea Serpent types, because you can control how many islands are there on the battlefield

Though it still pales in comparison to other blue creatures of the same CMC

One of the best serpents (which isn't saying much), but that art is awesome. The loss of Islandhome is a step in the right direction. Maybe in 20 more years we'll have serpents that are actually constructed playable...

Hey would be a good in a budget deck. Mono Blue and run things like Spreading Seas, bang 5/5 unblockable for 6 mana, which is very real threat.
