Back in the day these were the thing. But as time has passed so have their usefulness. I still put a few in some of my Vintage blackdamage decks, but that's about it. Still, a part of me will always love these, and the other batteries.
So skulls, spiders, and snakes store black mana I suppouse.

@ kirbster omg ur right. good eye
this card sucks. period. unless you feel teh need for 4 mana basic lands, then this whole cycle is just a pile of dog crap.
Then again, as a player that is almost strictly casual, this could be nice for some random decks that just need something.

While none of the mana batteries are terribly useful, they were the first mana storage cards created, so that's worth something.

Why waste your mana on this when you can have something like molten slagheap? Or, in the case of EDH (If you want a mono-black EDH) you could use bottomless vault.

Are you guys kidding me? This thing uses CHARGE COUNTERS y'know, the ones were you aren't supposed to use the overpriced ability on the card to get them, but along with proliferate you get plenty of free mana. Throw in a colorless deck with the rest of the batteries

Wow. Anson did a good job with that art. I'm not completely sure what all of that does, but if there were such a thing as a Black Mana Battery, this would defiinitely be it.
For anyone with a choice, may I direct your attention to the Rainbow Mana Battery. It may not be strictly better than this venerable cycle, but it comes pretty close.

Still playable in slow control decks. Keep building up counters and dealing with threats then blast them with a big consume spirit.
Also Doubling season. After you get the first counters on it, you can just tap and remove 1 counter to put 2 counters on it.
