An unorthodox use would be to play in an all-artifact deck to counter Lure, Prized Unicorn, and the like.

This is a stylish way to say "no" to your opponents Umezawa's Jitte (or any other equipment for that matter) without the necessity to adjust your deck excessively.

I have no idea why this card is in Mercadian Masques (that set wasn't too big on artifacts,) but if your opponents use a lot of Mirrodin block or Esper cards, it could be pretty dang useful.

Lord_Ascapelion This was created to give creatures in the Masques block some form of protection from Urza block cards like Masticore, since the Urza's block ended when Masques came in. Altogether the card was pretty nice when it came out, but I can't see using it in a deck mordern deck at all currently (maybe when Scars of Mirrodin comes out though).

Poweful in the right situations (which are becoming increasingly more common) and easy to splash in a deck. Besides that the card has a cool name and the art is fantastic.

My thumbs. They be up.

Excellent EDH tech, since powerful artifacts and artifact creatures are frequently used. 5/5 because it doesn't come into play tapped, and the art is also fantastic.

Batterskull, you weren't invited.

You could also use this to knock equipments off of a creature. Great against things like Living Weapons or Kemba.

Equipment don't fall off from prot artifact as they don't target while on.

They do get unattached actually:
702.15d A permanent with protection can't be equipped by Equipment that have the stated quality or fortified by Fortifications that have the stated quality. Such Equipment or Fortifications become unattached from that permanent as a state-based action, but remain on the battlefield. (See rule 704, "State-Based Actions.")

Currently anti-Batterskull tech.

@Lord_Ascapelion: Mercadian Masques followed up Urza's Block, which was pretty heavy on both enchantments and artifacts. (See Metalworker)

This was really bad when it was first introduced. Then they introduced equipments.

Especially nasty against Voltron decks. That Isamaru is a 2/2, and it's going to stay 2/2. Enjoy your Grizzly Bears general.

You know what's tech? Using this in a Memnarch EDH deck. "You trying to target my stuff? Nope."

So since giving a creature protection from artifacts doesn't make its equipment fall off, does this really work against a Batterskull? "Living Weapon" is a single ability, put token in play and attach... Can I target the Germ token before the equipment is attached? That sounds sketchy to me.
