MAN, I love the new art for this! Looks so antique...
Anyway, the card's not bad either. Typical angel.

Serra Angel costs the same.
So does Baneslayer Angel.
I know which I'd rather have in a deck.

Lolx gotta love how most of the people saying this card is crap are people who started ALA block or later :P This card is awesome, try using it, its alot more effective than you'd expect. Flavorful, fun, and devastating, always a good combo :)

I'm not terribly fond of this card, and I started in Masques. Even then, 5 for a 3/3 flyer was too much, and the 3 life doesn't do too much. I can pay 3WW and get 3 life once, or I can pay 1BB for a Nighthawk and net at least 2 life, and maybe even one of their creatures. (And before you tell me that they are different colors, think of which color of the two should be better at gaining life..) Overall the efficiency of this card isn't very impressive.

it's good at being what it is: an introductory card, something a new player can easily grab onto. And although other cards outshine it at every turn, it's not bad, and kind of cool.

Dude, this guy looks like hes sitting on a pile of hot crap with all this steam and the color of this... whats this thing his on top of? One of the worst arts Ive seen in the game, hands down.

Ah, how I love thee, Angel of Mercy. Thou hast served with excellency in my many duels with my most esteemed brother, and whilst thy sisters are often of greater power and fortitude, thou shalt always have a special place in mine heart.

Nostalgia aside, this is pretty weak compared to its direct competitors, Serra Angel and Shepherd of the Lost. I think it's time they changed the rarity on this to common. Or at least gave it an upgrade of some kind, like Lone Missionary vs. Venerable Monk. 3White for 2/3 Flying and 6 life? Could make a difference. At least then it's more life than you'd get from a single attack with Baneslayer.

I dont think this card is bad for an uncommon. I wouldn't take it to a tourney, I wouldnt play it with a "serious" casual crowd, but if I were building a budget deck, or something to get my wife into the game, i wouldnt mind having this angel fill a spot. Love the new art.

Just looking at the effects I would almost always rather play Shattered Angel. But looking at the art on both, it's hard to actually pick that over this.

I love the new artwork, but by today's standards this card looks distinctly underpowered (I'm surprised it was even reprinted). I guess it's more splashable than other angels out there?

@Tiggurix: It's nice to see someone using "thees and thous" without obvious mistakes. Like adding an eth suffix to a NOUN. Thou charmest mine ears, and thy skillful play of language consoleth me.

Comparing it to Shepherd of the Lost makes it look terrible. 3 life does not equal first strike and vigilance, except under the most dire of cirkumstances.

And I only misspelled that because it would have censored me had I not.

Yeah, Vampire Nighthawk overclassed this.

However, this was first printed in Invasion, while Nighthawk came around in Zendikar. Compare creatures and spell power from then to now. It's like comparing Phyrexian Negator to Phyrexian Obliterator. You can't really, because a 3-cost 5/5 with trample was huge, no matter the drawback.

However, do note that the life gain is forced. If for some reason the life gain is bad (like Transcendence), you can't stop it.

That being said, you shouldn't play this with Transcendence anyway. That's like playing Planar Void in a Reanimation deck.

A lot of hate being tossed at this card, but as people say, it's mostly for beginners. It's cool enough to attract people to the game and still useful. Outclassed, but not horrid. Also, it's pretty nice in a draft setting!

I think one of the reasons it's in this Duel Deck is because it's simply a very Old Angel card that lots of people would have seen and played with.

What Angel of Mercy was to people who liked Serra Angel as a Rare,

Serra Angel has now Become to people who regularly play only the Mythic Angels.

"You may not play Angel Tribal, you probably don't even have the best Angels, but c'mon, Everyone's heard of this* girl, right? Guess what She's an Angel."

Angel of Mercy is the Gray Ogre of Angels.
