Ancestral Recall? Thanks, I'll take 3 cards for free. Duress? Okay, let's have a look at your hand.
This card is nuts, especially since it's a free spell.

The other day, I was tapped out, and my opponent tried to Banefire me.

So I pitched Force of Will to this and won the game.

it's like force of will's really evil cousin.

Often times a Misdirected spell is more painful than a countered one.

BioPrince, you obviously don't understand alternate costs, you probably think Counterspell is strictly better than Force of Will too.

It is a good card, it's not main board material for the most part, but can find its place on many sideboards.

@BioPrince: I don't think it's entirely fair to compare this card to Deflect. You have to leave mana open to cast Deflect if you're anticipating a devastating spell from your enemy. Misdirection isn't as demanding, especially in a color known for card draw.

Sorry AvatarofHOE, I am totally right and you are totally wrong

Gatherer Text for duress:

"Target opponent reveals his or her hand. You choose a noncreature, nonland card from it. That player discards that card"

Unless you are playing multiplayer you have no legal target.

It is mentioned on several threads and articles:

I play the Show and Sneak deck and being a combo deck, my favorite spells to misdirect are.

1. Hymn to Tourach (You can pitch a card and still come out ahead!! Is this kind of value even legal??)
2. Thought Seize (Thats awesome, you get to see your opponents hand and watch him discard himself)
3. Diabolic Edict (My Emrakul and Progenitus died to this many times but Misdirection gives the opprotunity to refund some value)
4. Orim's Chant (A storm player is trying to go off with this as backup? I say NO!!, try again later)

Force of Will is more generally useful,
but I know which one I'd rather have against a first turn Channel kill
(hint: Misdirection).

This card should be worth more money than it is.
If nothing else, it's four more FoW-type cards in your deck.

The 2011 cards name is not Deflect but Redirect.

THE OL' SKULL SWITCHEROO.
Yeah, this card looks like a lot of fun. Its not cheap, its about ten to fifteen bucks. Then again, these kinds of blue cards tend to cost more than that.

You could probably run an otherwise non-blue deck with four of this, four Force of Will, and four Commandeer...maybe some Snapback, too.

In response to your Redirect, targeting my Commandeer, I'm going to Misdirect the Swerve you played in response to my Commandeer.

Unhinged 2 Preview:

Target Practice- 1URG
Instant- Mythic Rare

Target target targeting a target target targets another target target targeting a target target instead of the first target target it targeted.

Interrupt- Whenever a player interrupts you as you are declaring this spell, copy this spell.

This definitely sees play in Vintage with all the powerful targeted effects. I once watched this happen:

Player 1: Ancestral Recall
Player 2: Ancestral Recall in response
Player 1: Misdirection it to me
Player 2: Misdirection your Misdirection.

At this point the only legal choice for Misdirection was for player 1's Ancestral Recall to target player 2 instead, so he drew 6 cards. As you'd expect, he won that game.

Great in Vintage...cast on your opponent's Force of Will and redirect it to your Misdirection to essentially counter it.

Misdirecting things like Hymn to Tourach is quite possibly one of the most satisfying feeling in MTG.

Counterspell and Redirect are the sons of Force of Will and Misdirection.

While the price of these cards are steep, there is no greater joy than knowing that you're tapped out of mana...and still mentally psyching out your opponent. "Oh man, he's tapped out but SMILING!? Does he have Pact of Negation ? Or Misdirection? Force of Will !? WHAT DO I DOOOO"

I love the original wording so much.

So....... what exactly is going on in this art?
tcollins
★★★★☆ (4.5/5.0) (1 vote)
5/5 for using the word "target" 3 times in the same sentence (4 if you look at the original wording)....

Seriously though, any type of alternative casting is always a plus, something like exiling a card is easy to do in {U} largely because of the large access to card draw. Also, redirecting spells can often be more beneficial than countering them....plus it's just more fun.
