An Aven Fisher with more toughness. That's up to you to decide if you prefer that kind of creature to die fast or the opposite.

Cool, a strictly better Fighting Drake. Nice Limited card--as usual, Blue looks to rule the skies!

“Today I was sent out to examine the Darkslick, an area where the vedalken have noticed the dark sludge of the Mephidross spreading into the Quicksilver Sea. I saw a drake as I approached in the distance and I did my best to go unnoticed. It did not appear to be acting as I knew a drake to act: it flew with its wings twitching and its path erratically dipping, instead of gracefully gliding. Then I saw it fall from a spire’s height, into the Dross, and I was close enough that I could hear its bones break. On a tight schedule, I did best not to be distracted and measured the expansion of the Dross in the sector I was assigned. I concluded my survey and with extra time, ventured to inspect the drake’s body, half submerged in the Dross. Its neck was broken and looked like it had been ill, its bones exposed and its scales withered like burnt paper. As interesting as it was, the drake was only a diversion, so I opted to return to the Seat. But as I left I heard a noise, and turned around to see the drake rise from the murk, as though a massive invisible hand was around its body lifting the limp body into the sky. Its wings snapped open like it were about to take flight, which sounded like what I’d imagine bones snapping to be. The limp, unbreathing body still hung like a child’s doll as the wings began to flap wildly. I watched motionless as it flew into the distance, guided by phantom strings. I hurried to return to my overseers, rapidly transcribing what I had found in my sector: The Dross had moved a hand’s width into the sea.” —Divin Mav, Neurok envirotech.

@Tezz:
I love reading when people comment with long "story" posts. Magic is so amazing. Attaboy Tezz.

Darkslick Drake vs Lumengrid Drake in booster drafts: which is better? Drafting blue, I get caught between the two.

Sorry to be ***, but it isn't strictly better than a Fighting Drake since you're forced to draw the card when it dies and in some cases it could mill you for the loss.

Also, it isn't really a cantrip, or as good as one, since you can't draw your card as soon as you play it and you might not even get the card if you can't get it to the grave. Even if you could, you won't be able to have your drake and eat it too, so to speak.

Needs a touch more flavor. Another creature type? Slightly less subtle flavor text? I don't know, something.

@Gelzo: Actually, I think that Darkslick Drake is strictly better than Fighting Drake. Why? Because given everything else unchanged (even creature type), this card let you draw a card when is put into your graveyard.

Sure you will die if your library is empty, but this is a corner-case scenario and in the definition of "strictly better" corner-case scenario aren't contemplated. In fact, the definition of "strictly better" is: comparing two cards, a card is strictly better than the other if it has some better values than the other, given the rest unchanged.
Moreover, you can't consider every possible case, beacuse are too much, and you can find always a case where card A is better than card B, and another case where card B is better than card A. So the "strictly better" concept shouldn't exist...

The card is playable, but surely not tournament-level. However in limited and casual it could see some play... I would give it 3.5, but actually I'll give it 4 because of the spectacular art! Chippy is one of the best!

''Almost a stricktly better Kingfisher''

Cards are not stricktly better, they are situational.

@Tiggaplease
darkslick drake is far superior!
Also, Lumengrid drake will go very late most of the time. Darkslick will be taken sooner and people will see it as a signal that blue is open. So even if metalcraft is no problem, if you are blue, darkslick is totally the pick! Unless you are 3 colors.

Darn it. I just finished writing a lengthy comment about how Aven Fisher isn't that bad, only to hit random card and get this. I mean, come on!
(Yes, I am aware that there are times and decks in which this card is worse, but still, it really puts Aven Fisher to shame.)

It looks like it's flying down, referencing the "dies" ability.
