I would say "should cost one less" but then cancel would be obsolete. They should have made this more interesting.

Could have cost one less and made uncommon maybe? But Cancel has been printed way too much I guess.

Could have also allowed you to look at the top card of opponent's library as well. That wouldn't be too overpowered. But no, blue just has to have super expensive counterspells that have chintzy little bonuses...

Idk if anyone else has thought about this, but it's a great combo card. Laybare + thought hemmorhage? In extended you could also use fertile imagination, void, lobotomy, or anything else than needs to look at an opponents hand. Takes out all the guess work.

In duels this is strictly worse than Minamo's Meddling. which wasn't good.

And now let's take a look at the spells that you didn't counter!

I'd play this over Cancel. Cancel is no more of an early game counter than this one is, and the artwork on this card is much cooler. This card would have been remotely decent if it did look at the top of the controller's library in addition to their hand. But yeah, I might stick one of these somewhere 'cause knowing what's in your opponent's hand (if they have one) sometimes comes in hand- if I were running something like Venarian Glimmer.

i really dont think looking at your opponents hand is worth it for 1 extra mana when u can just have cancel

Not sure that I think too highly of this spell. The mana cost ensures this is only used later in the game so you can't really benefit as much from seeing your opponents' hand of at most 3 cards. Even then, the gimmick isn't worth the extra mana.

Dismal Failure would have been a more adequate replacement for this card. Any good mage should be able to predict what spells an opponent is most likely to play anyway.

Weak relative to older Counterspell, Mana Drain, etc but for a deck heavy with counterspells, knowing what is coming can be worth 1 mana compared to Cancel

The really sad thing is when you tap out to use this and see a big storm combo in your opponent's hand...

I ran x2 when this was in standard. 2BlueBlue is tricky for a counterspell, but I like hardcounters and I ran x4 Cancel behind it.

I think peaking at the top card of their library would have been a fantastic idea!!! Its a shame...

5/5 for the art and quote.

Jace effortlessly shredding an Eldrazi's limbs all the while being his smartass self... brings a tear of joy to my eye.

Nice to see he can even mouth-off to the damn Eldrazi without batting an eyelash.
