Screw you, Wizards. You can keep reprinting this garbage, I will NEVER use it. Cancel is an insult to blue players everywhere. Hell, this whole M10 set is insulting. I mean, Coral Merfolk? Horned Turtle? Friggin' Jump?! I hate you now, Wizards.

Another crime is wasting so much card space with 3 words and not having flavor text.

BORING. At the least, it should have had some freakin flavor text. But potential wise, why didn't wizards just make a new counter card to go in addition with this one? This card was already reprinted in Alara, there really isn't any need for it to be taking up a slot in the blue M10 (especially since most blue cards in M10 are not good). A new cheap counterspell with some kind of restrictive rule would have been great (e.g. Spell Snare, etc.). Or for that matter Counterspell! Anything new would have been better than another pointless reprint of this.

I don't get why this card is getting so much hate. It sure isn't the best thing since sliced bread but it will do the job of stopping doom blade from destroying a key creature for my strategy or pretty much stopping any annoying instant the enemy might throw at you. However I do agree Oleander, there was no reason for not adding some nice clever text (like the one on telepathy), however the art almost makes up for it (it looks pretty badass if you ask me). For that and for the "no you didn't" nature of the card I'd give it a mighty fine 3/5.

It's a fair, balanced counterspell, which is probably why blue players hate it.

People who think this card needs flavor text obviously don't understand what it is to play MUC. Yes, Counterspell was infinitely better. No, I will never use Cancel in any format where Counterspell is legal.

I don't see the problem with this spell other than cost and often by endgame, I'm sitting on a mana store enough to shame any green player. You get the ability to counter ANYTHING for 3 mana. It's a slim price for such a tide-turning effect.

In Shards It Sucked In M10 Its Good I Canceled An Overrun And A Planar Cleansing LMAO 1ST PLACE OBVIOUSLY. And For All You Blue Players Complaining About This Its Probably Because You Just Suck Cuz In Draft This Thing Is Easily Utilized. Just Play Essence Scatter Anyways....Duh

This card is pretty lame. Especially since Counterspell gets the job done and uses 1 less mana. Honestly. This card is REALLY lame.

Still a good card allowing more versatility in a permission deck. Although it needs 3 mana, should not be as much as a factor later in the game when most of the land is out. I would put 3 or 4 in a deck. Blue is definitely the weakest color by itself but still plays a significant support role.

IMO, should have costed 2U instead of 1UU. Still okay, but if it was at 2U, it would be a bit more playable in multi-colored decks. Maybe Wizards doesn't want blue splashed with anything. Mana Leak didn't make the cut, even though it is a better counter than this in most cases.

Its nice to see a hard counter back in a base blockset. However adding one mana to it to quiet the angry mobs over Counterspell's OP factor is just stupid. 4/5

I, for one, like the lack of flavor text. it just makes the card's attitude that much crankier. this is about as no-nonsense as it gets, and there is no need for cutesy quotes or horrible action-movie-style one-liners.

for 3 mana, it should have at least removed the spell from the game.

Upping mana cost for a card and not doing anything else is really a design flaw in my opinion... in formats where counterspell is legal, this is completely useless. If it was 2U you could argue that it has a place in a few multi coloured decks, but it's simply 1 mana more than Counterspell for the exact same effect. I truly think this card is sad.

Counterspell is, in my opinion, not overpowered. After all, when they're printing stuff like Goblin Guide, Baneslayer Angel and Jace, Mind Sculptor (to be released in worldwake) can they really say counterspell is overpowered?

But this card is in standard, where Counterspell isn't. I still don't like it though. The hand on the foreground just looks comical. Like it doesn't belong.

I still use Counterspells here and there, but you know, I understand why they made this card for the current Standard format. The two most unfun deck concepts are counter decks and land destruction. You don't want to be encouraging more speed for either to be a possible deck type. I'll tell you something: I'd rather play a card and have it be destroyed than not be able to play that card at all... and I think that perhaps there would be more people who would agree than disagree with that notion.

@Vampire__ : The difference between Counterspell and things like Goblin Guide, Baneslayer Angel and Jace, the Mind Sculptor is that Counterspell is an answer to everything. And unlike most answers, Counterspell costs a considerably lower amount than most of the things you'd be responding to. For two mana you could annul a 10 CMC card, and there isn't much they can do about it unless they also have a counter. There's a reason Cancel got printed instead of Counterspell and there's also a reason that other counters are getting more attention. Things like Mana Leak and Negate have downsides to playing them. Mana Leak won't help you in a later game when they can afford the three mana and Negate can't help you keep the battlefield empty. While it may not be overpowering in every, single situation, Counterspell is over-powered in the sense that it will invariably end up being played in every situation. This is made for standard. If you're playing in a format that allows Counterspell, play it and stop bitching about this card. If you're not - be happy you've got a hard, generalized counter you can use.

Blue players needed unfair counterspells to win because they had to use Morphling and such to win games, or splash into other color's beef creatures.
