blech cascade at its worst. could have been instant, or a little more life gain. if they wanted a sorcery cascade should have made something way cooler. ressurection effect would have been nice.

a sorcery with flash... sounds a lot like an instant.

In the article "Getting to Know Cascade" it's even stated that this was planned to be an instant that provides three life at first, but was changed later since it was apparently too anoying when used against attacking creatures by fetching Oblivion Rings or Kitchen Finks. I'd have like this more as an instant, though. It has cc4 and therefore you could not really rely on always getting the right card unless you run a quite slow deck with no cards that cost 2 or less.

They printed Bloodbraid Elves as a 3/2 Haste Cascade yet they couldn't print this as an instant? That is some shit. My Bituminous Blasts frequently Cascade into Grixis Charms/Terminates/Maelstrom Pulses, and that is an easy two for one instant, so I don't see the problem here. Weak, dedicated lifelink is paltry. Having cascade is nice but worthless if it isn't an instant. Don't let anyone say that lifegain in positive forms such as lifelink sucks, as it can totally hose the win-con's of many otherwise potent decks in a slow war of attrition, but this just shows the worst side of lifegain and why it gets all the hate from 'pro' players. Instant or get the hell out.

I will agree that this card is underpowered compared to Bloodbraid or Bit Blast...
That being said this works well in my Exalted deck along side Ardent Plea and a bunch of smaller creatures. Cascade nearly every turns with at least two exalted things coming out. Now if I only had the cash for Rafiq.

I don't really get the rage against this card. I have two in my exalted deck, and I cascade into a Rhox War Monk more times than I can mention. Admittedly, 4 life isn't particularly good, but the War Monk will almost certainly get me more. I don't think this card is for everyone, surely, but it has actually won me several games, despite its unimpressive appearance. 3/5.

If it started as an instsnt but that was 'too annoying', why print a watered down version instead? Just change the card altogether instead of just killing the potential. this card isn't as bad as it looks, but it could have and should have been so much better.

The dark side of cascade, I wouldn't play this is limited, much less constructed, I agree with the posters that this should be an instant...

cultivate + hallow + this + lotus cobra = 6 to 9 land turn 3... good card
This card bugs me; it's like a Splice on to Arcane spell, only the spell you you splice on to is completely random and costs less than it. I almost thing I would have just preferred it if it was JUST a 4 mana card that said Cascade, because it pretty much is. You're really just paying (at least) 1 mana too much for a spell at random from your deck; woo deck thinning.

Cascade was made for EDH.

People don't seem to realize that no matter HOW expensive Cascade is, it's good. That's because the more it costs, the better it gets.
No one would ever pay 4 mana for 4 life. Duh. What this is is potentially 1 mana for four life, and the ability to thin out your deck. It doesn't matter how you slice it, Cascade is an amazing mechanic, and almost any effect is good on a Cascade card. People just got spoiled by Bloodbraid Elf.

If I was in the jungle, and I found a puddle of yellow liquid, I would not drink it.
