The perfect spell for when everything has to die. As an instant, has improved value in multiplayer, where it can be cast in response to an attack that would deal you 6 anyway.

A little too expensive. If your opponent has creatures that make it worth casting this its probably too late. Although it's not an instant, just use earthquake.

A nice sweeper for red, not many creatures can survive this, although Master_of_Evocation has it right when he says use Earthquake, although this also hits flyers, which is useful in red...

Its cool in EDH. I love the flavor too. Makes me think about a torrent of flames barreling over a bunch of helpless dogs and soldiers. So brutal.

Play this the turn after your titan and cry.

It's hard to have that six life to spare if you're playing control. And if you're the aggro, don't play something that costs seven.

Viable in Commander, where big spells that blow up everything see plenty of play.

Other than that, this card is way too expensive since Earthquake will usually do a similar job and it can be scaled.

Deserves some mention as an Instant, perhaps the most expensive one in the game with a fixed casting cost.

Did anyone notice that this artwork is simply AWESOME???

Did anyone notice that the ablaze tree up in the middle joins the crevice in the upper card frame???

I miss some of these old artworks...

I used this as a finisher in a creatureless repercussion burn deck. With just 3 creatures on your opponent's side, that's game.

Don't get me wrong, the deck is terrible unless you get a perfect draw. But man, was it fun to play!

Some men Lightning Bolt, favoring efficiency and timing. Some men Warp World, preferring style and flash.

Some men just want to watch the world burn. They play this.

For a card this old, this is actually a fairly costed. The fact that it indiscriminately deals 6 damage to all creatures, flying or otherwise, gives it some utility and board-clearing ability. It's also instant, which can spell disaster for an opponent playing their combat tricks. It can also be used spitefully when you are about to lose, and can be downright mean in multiplayer. Even though you are oftentimes better off using targeted X-spells against one player, the damage this deals can be unreal against multiple opponents, especially if you are running Furnace of Rath and the like.
