I like the flavour and art of the card. Most of the time though it reads "target player loses 5 life". And that only when that opponent wants it, and if he doesn't have bounce or enchantment removal or something. So in short: the card is bad.
Maybe it would make sense if you'd play a card, that lets your opponent put lands into play. Like... uhm... play the worms, and then path to exile a creature of your opponent. Cute, but not powerful enough.

I love the wording of this card. "if a land would come into play, instead it doesn't." So... huh? What if I play rampant growth? I search my library for a land... and don't put it into play... so where does it go? back into my library? It doesn't say to shuffle it back in, it just says "it doesn't." I'm suprised that this hasn't been errated to say something like... "if a land would come into play, shuffle it into that players library instead." As is, the wording looks rediculus. For being really confusing and bad, I rate this card 4 stars! Ah older sets... you never bore me...

A card that was supposed to make land destruction even better than it was, but (fortunately) failed. This could be a pain at some casual tables but never particularly needed to be taken seriously at the tournament level.

(@NaturalKiller_Cyborg: there is nothing unclear about this card. With Rampant Growth, the card you searched for is still in your library until you put it into play. If you can't put it into play, it stays in your library, which promptly gets shuffled. Your "solution" would be very bad (even if there were an actual problem for it to solve), because it would still shuffle lands into your library that were trying to come into play, say, from your graveyard. This is obviously not the intended functionality.)

Evil fun in EDH. "Who is gonna pay the life this time?" Looks good after Armageddon...

Unlike Natural Killer Cyborg, I think the oracle wording is awesome, but not confusing. I hope they never reword it so that I can continue to refer people to the official wording, "instead, it doesn't." 5/5

There is hardly any Earth left for those worms to be "of"....

Pretty good way to annihilate any deck that focuses around big creatures. Could see it fit in any deck that is low on mana, like most vampire decks.
The converted mana cost is a tad high, but the effects are pretty significant so I can't blame Wizard.

Card should read,
Sacrifice two lands: Destroy worms of the earth. Any player may activate this ability but only during their upkeep.
Pay 5 life: Destroy worms of the Earth. Any player may activate this ability but only during their upkeep.
See Aether Storm . Power errata please? Pithing Needle . Imo these two cards should function the same.

Dropping it turn 1 can be fun. It forces then to take 5 damage before they even get to their first draw.

I'm I the only one who find this art disturbing... :/ I'm talking about that worm sticking its head out of the ground in a *ahem* suspicious position relative to that poor dude's ass.

@Hovercraft,

The only problem I see with your wording is that the original wording indicates that any player can pay the cost during ANY players upkeep, not just their own.

This card is worse than a black lava axe, and costs triple black. Seeing as lava axe is already a mediocre card, making it black and stinking three B symbols on it doesnt make it much better...

I've seen enough Hentai to know where this is going...

Again, mostly just a clunky direct damage spell. Art is rather creepy.

I really hoped this card was like this, my initial reading:
"At the beginning of each turn, Sac 2 lands or get dealt 5 damage. If someone does both, destroy Worms of the Earth".

That would not only make Worms more gusty, but also much more interesting. Sure, each turn, you could lose 5 life, but soon enough, it adds together. Take that and add the fact that you can't put anymore lands down, it comes down to who's the most courageous.

I'd give it 4/5 or fun if that were the case. I'm just giving it 2/5 now, because, as many said, it's just 5 damage for 5 CMC.

Black Lava Axe that doesn't always work that way? Sign me up!

Creepy art.
Works well in EDH with Skull of Orm, though you'd need an easy way to recast it.

This is potentially the greatest "F you all" card in the game.

I mean that more on a just douchebaggery rating, not so much a power rating.

We complaing about bad old cards and joke, but can you IMAGINE if this had some kind of clause that protected it from Naturalize? Or if this was a sorcery and gave this to you as an EMBLEM? o.O

This was a very near miss that almost killed the game forever before it could really get off the ground. This would be a banned card practically everywhere if it was any good at what it tries to do.

Really disgusting. The Dark is a nasty, creepy, disturbing set. And I love it. Also, you can put indestructibility on it.

The art is quite intriguing, looks like the worm that protruded the ground is about to give the person a painful intrusion.
